PENROSE, CHARLES WILLIAM, Born Feb. 4, 1832, Cam- berweil, London, Eng. Came to Utah September, 1861, Homer Duncan company.
Missionary In England, before coming to Utah, ten years. Settled at Farmington upon his arrivai in Utah; moved to Cache Valley in 1864. Missionary to Engiand 1865-68. En- gaged In mercantile pursuits at Logan 1868. Moved to Ogden 1870, and took charge of the editorial department of the "Ogden Junction," then a semi-weekly, but iater a daily. Member Ogden City council four terms. High priest and member high council Weber stake. Delegate from Weber county to the constitutional convention 1872. Mem- ber of the committee appointed to give the state Its name, and the memorial to congress. Member legislature from Weber county 1874. In 1877 moved to Sait Lake City and became connected with the "Deseret News," and in 1880 became editor-in-chief of that paper. In 1879, at a special election was elected a member of the legislature from Sait Lake county to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Aibert P. Rockwood, and re-elected in 1882. Elected to the constitutional convention, and assisted in framing the constitution of the state of Utah. Second counselor to Angus M, Cannon, president Sait Lake stake 1884; mis- sionary to England 1885, In 1893 became editor-in-chief of Salt Lake "Heraid." Sustained a member quorum of tweive aposties Oct. 9, 1904; Dec. 7, 1911, sustained as second counselor to Joseph F. Smith in the first presidency of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
PEPPER, JOHN (son of Lawrence Pepper and Mary Ward of Northamptonshire, Eng.). Born Aug. 26, 1836, North- amptonshire. Came to Utah 1861.
Married Anna Mariah Fordham March 7, 1863 (daughter of Elijah Fordham and Anna Bibbin Chaffee, pioneers 1850, independent company). She was born May 21, 1844. Came to Utah with parents in 1850. Their children: Anna Mariah Fordham b. Sept. 7, 1864, d. May 21, 1904; m. William P. Deakin; Emily Ann Fordham b. Sept. 15, 1866, d. Dec. 16, 1876. Family home Weilsviiie, Utah.
