In charge of ali tralns to Fiorence, Ala. Returned to Louisville, hiring and buy- ing teams for the government. Went to Tennesseo as wagonmaster 20th army corps, then with Sherman's cam- paign to Atlanta, Ga., and on to the sea. Returned to Washington by way of the Carolinas and Fortress Monroe. Was at Harper's Ferry the night President Lincoln was assassinated. In 1865 went to Colorado. Heiped bulid rallroads and did general freighting into Salt Lake City. Conducted frelghting. outfits from Salt Lake to Ely, Nev .. Silver Pack, Nev., and to the Star district In Beaver county, Utah, where .in 1877 he became interested in the Horne silver mine, which yielded him a fortune, which he invested in the Cullen Hotel, Salt Lake Brewing Company, Walker Dros. Bank and many other large enterprises of Salt Lake City, at which place he now resides.
