3. Provision for furnishing hot lunches to those pupils unable to go to their homes during the noon intermission.

4. A possible shortening of the noon intermission period for the purpose of an earlier dismissal.

CONCLUSION

It has been my purpose to so direct the work in your schools that teachers and pupils may have the best possible conditions in which to work; that pupils may receive the best possible education; that taxpayers may feel their money has been wisely expended; that the school com- mittee may be pleased to have served the town in such important work.

It has been a pleasure to work under your leadership.

I thank you for your co-operation which has made possible the excellent standing of this department.

Respectfully submitted,

JOHN D. WHITTIER.

REPORT OF SCHOOL COMMITTEE FOR 1937

Regular monthly and special meetings have been held throughout the year with all members and Superintendent present. Due to crowded conditions it was necessary to ask for more room and the Town voted to erect a two-room addition which is now in use starting January 3. 1938. This takes the pupils from the room in the Town Hall and puts classes from 1 to 8 inclusive in the Center School.

Several replacements of teachers have been made this year and we believe we have maintained the high standard that we have had in the past. One additional teacher has been added at the Center School to take care of the increase of pupils and modifying somewhat the teacher pupil load.

Enrollment of pupils at Wakefield High School has not increased to any extent, however. From figures available, the 1938 attendance will increase considerably.

There has been in all schools in the past year certain periods of unrest and conditions not favorable to good practice and while Lynn- field has had some difficulties along this line, drastic action has been taken to correct this annoyance. The School Committtee respectfully requests of the parents their full co-operation in this respect, that we may continue to be a community of high standards in our school system, both as to deportment and education.

TOWN OF LYNNFIELD

REPORT OF LIBRARY TRUSTEES

FOR 1937

To the Citizens of the Town of Lynnfield:

A special appropriation this year enabled the Trustees to have the exterior of the Main Library given two much-needed coats of paint. Also this appropriation, plus an added amount from the regular appro- priation, made it possible to install two modern gas-burning heaters in the Main Library, replacing the antiquated coal stoves.

Effort is made to procure up-to-date books on all worthwhile sub- jects. It would be greatly appreciated if patrons knowing of desirable books to purchase would suggest them to either of the Librarians or any member of the Trustees.

Respectfully submitted,

WILLIAM W. GRACE,

MALCOLM C. EATON,

RUDOLPH P. SCHLENKER.

REPORT OF CEMETERY COMMISSIONERS

To the Citizens of the Town of Lynnfield:

The Cemetery Commissioners report that all five Town cemeteries have been given general care.

The undeveloped area at Forest Hill is being graded and seeded as

64

TOWN OF LYNNFIELD

we are able, and we wish to report that a plot containing twenty-five lots is in good shape, three lots being sold.

Another section has been thoroughly cultivated and it is planned to grade and seed same during the coming year. We are following this program of development as fast as we are able.

At Willow Cemetery, in addition to general maintenance, there were twenty-five shade trees planted along the avenues in the recently developed section.

There is a definite need for more trees in both the Willow and Forest Hill Cemeteries.

Respectfully submitted,

LYNNFIELD CEMETERY COMMISSIONERS.
