Mrs. Knight of the School Com- mittee spoke of reasons why the School Committee wishes a lump sum and moved an amendment to motion as follows: To raise and appropriate the sums in #90 thru #95 and #97 in a single sum, that sum to be $250,996.22. The Chairman of the Advisory Board urged defeat of the amendment. Supt. Adjourned meeting called to order by the Moderator with 263 registered voters present.

the Warrant in the following order: Article 4, 5, 8, 10, 11, 12, 13, 16, 17, 18, 19 and 20.
Article 4. Motion made, seconded and unanimously voted to appropriate from available funds, the sum of $13,750.00 in anticipation of repayment by the Commonwealth of Massa- chusetts for Chapter 81, Work on the Highways.
Article 5. Motion made, seconded and voted to appropriate the sum of $15,000.00 from available funds in anticipation of repayment by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and the County of Plymouth for Chapter 90, Work on the Highways.
Article 8. Motion made, seconded and voted 145 in favor, 88 against, to change the name of Central Street from the Scituate line to the junction of Central Street and Norwell Avenue to Old Oaken Bucket Road.
Article 10. Motion made to accept the County layout of River Street. Selectmen explained that layout could be accepted but land not developed until later. Opposition voiced by abuttor. Motion made, seconded and voted to indefinitely postpone action on Article 10.
Article 11. Motion made, seconded and voted to raise and appropriate the sum of $3,000.00 for mix and place surface and drainage on Central Street and/or Old Oaken Bucket Road.
Article 12. Motion made, seconded and voted to raise and appropriate the sum of $5,000.00 for mix and place surface on South Street.
Article 13. Motion made, seconded and voted to raise and appropriate the sum of $500.00 to widen entrances to Franklin Road, Gerard Road and Wilder Road.
Article 16. Motion made, seconded and unanimously voted to authorize the Town Treasurer, with the approval of the Selectmen, to borrow money from time to time in anticipation of the revenue of the financial year beginning January 1, 1957, and to issue a note or notes therefor, payable within one year in accordance with General Laws, Chapter 44, Section 4, as amended, and to renew any note or notes as may be given for less than one year in accordance with General Laws, Chapter 44, Section 17, as amended.
Article 17. Motion made, seconded and unanimously voted to raise and appropriate the sum of $12,000.00 to purchase a new Fire Truck.

Article 18. Motion made, seconded and unanimously voted to appropriate the 1955 Dog Tax Refund of $957.89 to the School Department Maintenance Account.
Article 19. Motion made to appropriate the sum of $45,000.00 for the purpose of purchasing pipes and laying water mains of not less than 6 inches but less than 16 inches in diameter in Main Street between Dover Street and the Scituate town line and to meet said appropriation by appro- priating $20,000.00 from available funds and by authorizing the Treasurer, with the approval of the Selectmen, to borrow for such purpose the sum of $25,000.00 by the issuance of bonds or notes under the provisions of Chapter 44 of the General Laws and acts, as amended thereof or in addition thereto. After considerable discussion the motion was seconded and voted 275 in favor and 10 against, to appropriate the sum of $45,000.00 for the purpose of purchasing pipes and laying water mains of not less than 6 inches, but less than 16 inches in diameter in Main Street between Dover Street and the Scit- uate town line and to meet said appropriation by appropriating $20,000.00 from available funds and by authorizing the Treas- urer, with the approval of the Selectmen, to borrow for such purpose the sum of $25,000.00 by the issuance of bonds or notes under the provisions of Chapter 44 of the General Laws and acts, as amended thereof or in addition thereto.
Article 20. Motion made, seconded and voted 269 in favor 2 against to appropriate the sum of $5,000 00 for the purpose of purchasing pipes and laying water mains not less than 6 inches but less than 16 inches in diameter in Oak Street of Ridge Hill for a distance of approximately one-fifth mile between Washington Street and High Street, and to authorize the Treasurer, with the approval of the Selectmen, to borrow for such purpose the sum of $5,000.00 by the issuance of bonds or notes under the provisions of Chapter 44 of General Laws and acts, as amended thereof or in addition thereto.
Motion made, seconded and voted to take action on the remaining articles in the Warrant in order of their arrange- ment in the transcript.
Article 6. Motion made by Mr. Barstow to appropriate the sum of $15,000.00 as the Town's share of the cost of construc- tion of a bridge and approaches under Chapter 90 of the General Laws, to replace Union Bridge over the North River. Mr. Allen moved that Article 6, be amended to read: Vote to appropriate from available funds, the sum of $1,000.00 to defray the expense of a comprehensive analysis by the Plan-

ning Board and their consultants of the North River area and the Union Bridge, the Planning Board to report to the Select- men and the Town and recommend action that should be taken in these matters for the best interests of the Town of Norwell. Mr. McDonough had an amendment to propose but the chair ruled Mr. Allen's must be acted on first. Advisory Board reported at this time that the Board was in favor of the original Motion Mr. Allen's Motion was seconded but did not carry. The main Motion was then seconded and by a vote of 170 to 121 it was voted to raise and appropriate the sum of $15,000.00 as the Town's share of the cost of construction of a bridge and approaches under Chapter 90 of the General Laws, to replace Union Bridge over the North River.
Article 7. It was moved, seconded and voted to indefinitely postpone action on Article 7.
Article 9. Motion made and seconded to raise and appro- priate the sum of $10,000.00 for the construction of a four foot wide asphalt-paved sidewalk with granite curbing on the southerly side of Grove Street from Washington Street to Wilder Road, under the provisions of Chapter 83 of the Gen- eral Laws.
Mr. Lancaster reviewed the danger to pedestrians traveling on Grove Street and urged passage of the Motion. Chairman of the Finance Board urged the defeat of the Motion. Upon being put to vote the Motion failed to carry.
Article 14. Motion to raise and appropriate the sum of $6,000.00 for Highway Drainage Systems failed to carry.
Article 15. Motion made, seconded and voted to instruct . the Moderator to appoint a Drainage Committee of five (5) members, including a qualified Engineer, to study drainage problems as they may appear and to advise the Selectmen and the Highway Surveyor regarding them.
Article 21. Motion made, seconded and unanimously voted to instruct the Selectmen to prepare proper papers and instruct the Board of Water Commissioners to have a proper metal plaque inscribed and placed on the standpipe, to thank the Paradis family for the standpipe site, and the Paradis and Cugnasca families for the right of way to the standpipe, all of which was deeded as a gift by these families to the Town of Norwell.
Article 22. Motion made, seconded and unanimously voted to authorize the Town Accountant to close out the unexpended balances of the following appropriations, the purposes of which

have been completed : 1955 Census $5.72, High School Drive- ways $300.00, and Elementary School Driveways $285.00.
Article 24. Motion made, seconded and unanimously voted to establish a School Study Committee consisting of the School Committee, one representative each of the following, to be selected by the group they represent, Planning Board, Parent- Teachers' Association, School Staff, Advisory Board, Superin- tendent of Schools ex officio, Recreation Commission and three members-at-large, the latter chosen by the above group. It shall be the duty of this Committee to recommend at the next Annual Town Meeting the next steps to be taken in our school expansion program, relative to buildings, playgrounds and athletic fields.
Article 25. Motion made, seconded and unanimously voted to raise and appropriate the sum of $500.00 for Civil Defense purposes.
Article 26. Motion made, seconded and voted to raise and appropriate the sum of $100.00 for Christmas decorations.
Article 27. Motion made, seconded and voted to choose a Town Director of the Plymouth County Aid to Agriculture, as provided for by the General Laws, Chapter 128, Section 41; and that William D. Jacobs be that Director.
Article 28. Motion made, seconded and voted to raise and appropriate the sum of $2,500.00 for the services of profes- sional planners, to evaluate and make an accurate projection from the factual data gathered by the Planning Board and its committees, and to cover the cost of drafting, typing, and pub- lication of the final report of the community Survey Committee.
Article 29. Motion made and seconded to raise and appro- priate the sum of $1,500 00 to be expended, under the direction of a Committee of five (5) persons to be appointed by the Moderator, for the preparation of preliminary plans, outline specifications and cost estimate for the construction of an addi- tion to the Town Hall offices, said committee to report at the next regular or special Town Meeting. The Advisory Board reported against this action and the Motion failed to pass.
Article 30. Motion made, seconded and voted to postpone indefinitely, action on Article 30.

Motion made, seconded and unanimously voted to raise and appropriate the sum of $150.00 for the purpose of maintaining during the ensuing year, the mosquito control works as estimated and certified to by the State Reclamation Board in accordance with the provisions of Chapter 112, Acts of 1931.
Article 33. No instructions to Town Officers were voted.
Two Fish Rights were auctioned by the Moderator. Way- land S. Bailey bought Fish Right #1 for $4.00. Francis J. Nagle bought Fish Right #2 for $4.50.

Annual Town Election Subsequent Meeting for the Election of Officers Saturday, March 10, 1956 Polls opened 12 noon to 8 p.m.
Pursuant to the Warrant, the voters met at Cushing Memo- rial Town Hall, Saturday March 10, 1956 at 12 noon. Polls closed at 8 p.m. Moderator Silvia was in charge and swore in the following Election Officers: Annie Capell, Bobbe Miner, Janice Litchfield, Martha Henderson, Edith Devine, Julia Rosebach, Ruth Murray.

To either of the Constables of the Town of Norwell
GREETING :
In the name of the Commonwealth you are hereby required to notify and warn the inhabitants of said town who are qualified to vote in Primaries to meet in Polling Place,
Cushing Memorial Town Hall Tuesday, the Twenty-Fourth Day of April, 1956 at 8:00 o'clock a.m., for the following purposes :
To bring in their votes to the Primary Officers for the Election of Candidates of Political Parties for the following offices :
10 Delegates at Large to the National Convention of the Republican Party.
10 Alternate Delegates at Large to the National Conven- tion of the Republican Party.
24 Delegates at Large to the National Convention of the Democratic Party.
24 Alternate Delegates at Large to the National Conven- tion of the Democratic Party.
2 District Delegates to the National Convention of the Republican Party, 9th Congressional Dist.
2 Alternate District Delegates to the National Conven- tion of the Republican Party, 9th Congressional Dist.
4 District Delegates to the National Convention of the Democratic Party, 9th Congressional Dist.
2 Alternate District Delegates to the National Conven- tion of the Democratic Party, 9th Congressional Dist. District Members of State Committee-(One Man and One Woman) for each political party for the Norfolk & Plymouth Senatorial District.
24 Members of the Republican Town Committee.
Members of the Democratic Town Committee. Presidential Preference.
The polls will be open from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Hereof fail not and make return of this warrant with your doings thereon at the time and place of said meeting.
