SEBEWAING.
A village of 400 population in Sebewaing township, Huron county, near the mouth of Sebewaing river, about a mile inland from Saginaw bay, 30 northeast of Bay City, 22 north of Caro, the nearest railroad center, and 31 southwest of .Bad Axe, the county seat. It bas stage communication daily with Caro and Bay City, fare $1.50 and $2. The place has Methodist, Catholic and 2 Lutheran churches, 1 public and 2 private schools, 2 flouring mills. 2 saw-mills, & planing mill and a machine shop. The county seat of Wexford county, is beautifully located on the Manistee river, in Sherman township, 50 miles northeast of Manistee, 26 south of Traverse City, and 16 west of Manton on the G. R. & I. R. R., via which it is 126 miles north of Grand Rapids. The river furnishes an abundant water power, partially utilized by a flouring mill, saw and shingle mills. It has Methodist and Congregational churches, a hotel and 4 stores. A weekly newspaper, the Pioneer, is published. The survey has been made for a railroad from Frankfort, on the shore of lake Michigan, through Sherman to a point on the G. R. & I. R. R. Stage to. It has stage communication with Dowagiac and Keelerville, the latter 5 miles north, tri-weekly. Laud from $40 to $100 per acre.
