WALLED LAKE.
A pleasantly situated village of 250 in- habitants, in the township of Commerce. Oakland county. 14 miles southwest of Pontiac, the county seat, På east of Wixom station, on the F. & P. M. Ry, with which it is connected by a daily line of stages, and 28 northwest of Detroit. Walled Lake takes its name from the beautiful body of water upon which it is situated, a peculiar rock formation at the lower end of which has long been a source of specu- lation among antiquarians, and as a curi- osity has drawn thither many visitors. The leading features here are 3 churches, Methodist, Congregational and Christian, a commodious school-house, built in 1880 at a cost of #3,200, a saw-mill. 2 flouring mills, a good hotel, and stores representing all the various lines of trade. WAYNE.
The village of Wayne was first settled in 1836 and became incorporated in 1870. It lies at the crossing of the F. & P. M. Rv and the M. C. R. R., on the latter of which it is the fourth station west of Detroit (being 18 miles distant), 51 miles north of Toledo and 104 south of Bay City. It is in Nankin township, Wayne county, and is the location of the Wayne county insane asylum, poorhouse and farm. Methodist. Catholic, Congregational, Dutch Reform, Lutheran and Universalist churches, a large school building costing $21,000, a weekly newspaper, the Wayne and Ply- mouth. Review, a handsome town hall and a flouring mill are here. WEBBERVILLE.
Formerly known as LeRoy, is a village of 525 inhabitants, settled in 1870, in Le- Roy township, Ingham county. It is on the D., L. & N. R. R., 22 miles northeast of Mason, the county seat, 28 southeast of Lansing, and 65 west of Detroit. The manufactories embrace a saw-mill, stave and barrel factories and a grist mill. Bank at Fowlerville. Wheat, lumber and cbar- coal are shipped. A tri-weekly stage runs to Locke, 5 miles north. Express, Ameri- can. G. W. Langford, postmaster.
