On the Detroit river, 15 miles below De- troit, is an incorporated village of 1.200 inhabitants. It is in Monguagon town. ship, Wayne county, and is both a station on the k. S. & M. S. Rv. and the point where the C. S. Ry crosses the river, the American channel being bridged and the Canadian ferried. By the former line it is 91 miles from Detroit, and by the latter 16; to Monroe 19, and to Adrian 52. Trenton

An unimportant postoffice in Oakland county.


TROSTVILLE.


Or Frankentrost, as it is also called, is a German settlement, in Blumfield township, Saginaw county, 9 miles east of East Sagi- naw, and 3 from Callum's station, on the Saginaw Div. D. & B. C. R. R., its ship- ping point. It was settled in 184%, has a Lutheran church and public schools, and a village population of about 50. Mail, semi- weekly.

Settled in 1836, on the Cass river, in the township and county of Tuscola, 19 miles southeast of Caro, the county seat. The nearest railway station is Vassar, on the D. & B. C. R. R., 5 miles northeast. It has a woolen mill, a flouring mill, a sash and door factory, lumber and shingle mills, and 3 churches, Adventist, Baptist and Methodist, also a good Union school, surrounded by a good farming country, producing wheat and all kinds of farm produce. Shipments, grain, flour, shingles, staves and wool. Population, 600. Stage daily south to Clio, 12 miles, and north to Vassar: fare to Clio, 75 cents; to Vassur, 25 cents. Horace E. Baptist, Methodist and Presbyterian societies are in the neigh- borhood, and the place has a public school and flouring mill. Settled, 1533. Wheat forms the chief shipments. Is situated at the junction of the Cold- water and St. Joseph rivers, in Union township, Branch county, and is a station on the Air Line Division of the M. C. R. R., 41 miles southwest of Jackson, 62


northeast of Niles and 117 west of Detroit. Coldwater, the county seat, is 12 miles southeast. The village was first settled in 1830. and became incorporated in 1869. It now has 1,300 inhabitants, and is growing and improving steadily ; has three churches, Congregational, Episcopal and Methodist, the former a very tine brick edifice, a hand- some brick school building, recently com- pleted at a cost of about $20,000, 2 na- tional banks, with an aggregate capital of $100.000, 3 hotels. 2 weekly newspapers. the Register, published by Major D. J. Easton, and the Union City National, and a fine single span iron bridge, built over the St. Joseph river in 1878. Manufacturing is. well represented, and the surrounding country is not surpassed by any in Michi- igan for productiveness. The exports for 18:9, consisting of grain, flour, plows. staves and miscellaneous merchandise amounted to 9,464 tons. Daily mail, by rail and by stage, to Coldwater, Athens and North Batavia.
