A hamlet on the F. & P. M. Ry, in Mason county, 14 miles east of Ludington, the county seat, 30 west of Reed City, and 220 northwest of Detroit. Settled, 1875. Population, 100. It is located on an Indian reservation, the lands of which are now on the market under the homestead act. The Pere Marquette river is 2 of a mile distant, and a fine water privilege, could be util- ized for manufacturing purposes. WEST BAY CITY.
This city, which comprises the towns formerly known as Wenona, Banks and Salzburg, is located on the left bank of the Saginaw river, opposite Bay City, on the Mackinaw Div. M. C. R. R., and has a
population of 6,000. Banks is now the first ward in the municipality, Wenona the second and Salzburg the third. Each town retains its former postoffice, and Banks and Salzburg their former postoffice name. That of Wenona has been changed to West Bay City. The city has 1 Pres- byterian, 1 German Lutheran, 1 Roman Catholic, 2 Methodist Episcopal churches, and an Episcopal mission. It has also a Union and graded school, a fire depart- ment (steam), 6 large saw-mills, 1 flouring mill, 3 salt manufactories and 2 breweries. This village, of 400 inhabitants, is in Westphalia township, Clinton county, 17 uniles southwest of St. John's, the county seat, and 8 south of Fowler station, on the D., G. H. & M. Ry. Its interests are a grist mill, a saw mill, a planing mill, a Catholic church and school, 3 general stores, 2 hotels, etc. Grain, flour, butter, pork and lumber are exported. Settled, 1835.
