A small postoffice in the southern part of Mecosta county. It is on the tri-weekly mail route from Morley to Sylvester, 6 miles east of Morley.

An unimportant postoffice in Huron county.
SABLE BRIDGE.
A small collection of settlers on Great Sable river, in Victor township. Mason county, the postoffice being at Chapple's Corners.
SAC BAY.
Burnt Bluff Point, a peninsula in the northern part of Green bay. is the location of this hamlet. It is in Fairbanks town- ship, Delta county, 25 miles southeast of Escanaba. Has no postoffice.
SADDLE BAG SIDING.
Kent county, on the D., G. H. & M. Ry, 6 miles east of Grand Rapids and 151 from Detroit.

Columbia township, Van Buren county, a station on the South Haven Div. M. C. R. R. (See Columbia. )
SAGANING.
A postoffice in Standish township, Bay county, on the Saganing river, 25 miles north of Bay City. Population, formerly about 125, now unknown. White Feather, on the Mackinaw Div. M. C. R. R .. 4} miles southwest, is its railroad point, whence mail is received by special supply.
SAGINAW.
Also known as Saginaw Mine, is a sta- tion on the M. H. & O. R. R., 18 miles west of Marquette.
SAGINAW.
The oldest city in the Saginaw valley. and the county seat of Saginaw county. was located as a settlement in 1822, but its principal development has taken place since 1845. It now contains a population of about 11,000, and is situated on the west
bank of the river bearing the same name. 18 miles above its mouth, and a short dis- tance above East Saginaw, which is on the opposite side, and with which it is con- nected by 3 substantial bridges spanning the river, the distance from the cen- tral part of each place being about 2 miles. It has a frontage on the river of 4 miles, with an average depth of 2 miles, and is divided into six wards, comprising some 110 streets and avenues, many of them re- markably fine thoroughfares, studded with handsome buildings, Washington street, extending from a point opposite East Sagi- naw, through the whole length of the city, being the most notable.
The city is incorporated, and is gener- ally known as Saginaw City. It is gov- erned by a mayor and board of aldermen, who control the various departinents. The water works belong to the city, and are un- der the management of a board of com- missioners. The fire department consists of a chief and 9 men, and the police force of a marshal, deputy marshal, aud 4 pa- trolmen. The city has also a board of health. Six buildings are devoted to pub- lic school purposes, the central one con- taining the grammar and high schools. There are also 2 German Lutheran and ? other private schools, while religion is well represented by 10 churches of the follow- ing denominations: One Catholic. 1 Pres- byterian, 2 Methodist, 2 Baptist, 2 Lu- theran, 1 Liberal Christian, and 1 Episco- pal. A beautiful cemetery is located 3 miles west of the city on the Gratiot State road. Of societies, the city has 4 lodges of Masons, 2 Odd Fellows, 1 Knights of Pythias, 1 Good Templar and 6 other mis- cellaneous ones, with purposes social or benevolent. There are ? banks, a number of incorporated companies, and 2 newspa- pers are published, the Saginawian (Demo- cratic), and the News (Republican). The principal industrial interests of Saginaw are lumber and salt, with quite a large trade in furnishing supplies to the humber regions.
It is connected with East Saginaw by street railway, and the following widl show its distance from important points: Thirty-six miles north of Owosso. 115 northeast of Grand Rapids, 101 northeast of Jackson, 64 northeast of Lansing, and 100 northwest of Detroit. The P& P. M. By reaches within a short distance of its northern boundary, the Saginaw Div. of the M. C. R. R. traverses the business por- tion of the city, and the S. V A S. L. R.
