BOOK O, page 14 .- Easthampton Aprill the first : 1684 at a Towne meteing Legallie warned it is agreede by a Maior voate of this Towne yt there shalbe 16 men appointed for to goe to meantacut for to helpe the Indians open the great pond on ye north end of it; and ye psons who and the time when is left to bee ordered by ye discresion of ye sellect men yt shall bee appointed for ye mannagment of ye affairs of ye Towne & the Charge to be borne by the Towne. And allsoe yt the Towne have agreed by a maior voate yt the select men are appointed & Impowred to take some Course to get or pro- vide a house for Mr Squire & if he will lay out any thing for ye building of it hee may : And what hee wanteth of it the Towne is to make it upp.

The day & yeere above written Samuell Parsons is by a Maior voate of ye Towne Chosen & appointed one of ye select men for the ordering of ye Towne affaires and alsoe Enock ffithyan & John Hopping the other 2 select men for the order- ing ye affaires of ye Towne for this present yeere.


And Whereas there hath bene severall horses or Mares or both yt did belong to Captaine Silvester by Common denom- ination yt have gone a great while uppon ye Comons of this Towne & have not paid to the Publike Charge of ye Towne & ye late Constable & Overseers haveing taken it into their Consideration & have Caused some of those horse kind yt hath went under the name of Sillvesters to bee brought upp & have sould some of them to pay their part of ye publick Charge & ye whole part of the Charge yt doth belong to those horses not yet being full satisfied it is appointed & agreede by the towne yt ye aforesaid late Constable & Overseers Namely Beniamin Osborne Constable ; Capt Josiah Hobbard William Miller & John Kirle Overseers shall goe on to get upp some more of those horses to satisfie ye rest of ye Charge yt it re- maineth for those horses to pay & ye Towne doth approve of this their act:

(Highways .- ) It was agreed upon by the towne when Mr Chatfeild had his Land granted him that ther should bee a highway of foure poale in breadth through his Land as it runs now ; that is to say the Land at the head of the Swampe which is by the three raile geate and the high way is to run by Isaac Hedges cloase and hee tooke up this Land upon this condition.


When the Land was Laid out upon the indian well plains ther was a highway Laid out to run downe from the woods to the indian well of Six poale in breadth be twene Mr Jeams Land and william Barns Land.


When the Land was Laidout one wainscot plains there was ahighway Laid out to run from the woods to the beach; of twoe poale in breadth betwene Joshua garlick Seniars and william fithians Land.


When the Land was Laid out beyend Stephen Hands home Lott there was ahighway Laid out of foure poale in breadth next the towne and three pole and halfe next the sand hils and it run betwen the Land laid out and Stephen Hands home Lott by the side of it.


when the Land was laid out by the Littell plains there was a highway Laid out by the out side Jeremiah concklings and betwene the end of his Loot and Thomas osborns Land and soe betwene the fence and John Mullfords Land to the Littell plaine bars and soe along the Littell plains of twoe poale in breadth.

Book O, page 20 .- At a Towne meeting Legallie warned it was by a Maior voate agreede yt ye Townsmen with some other who they shall appoint to Joyne with for to treate with the Indians and to Conclude & issue differences betwene us & them in a peaceable way yt soe wee & they may live quietly in or enjoyments according to rules of Righteousnes & Equitie & The Towne to stand to their Conclusion and determination.


It is allsoe ordered ye day & yere above writen yt John psons weaver Constable this present yeere is apointed by ye Towne to be Collector for to gather ye publike rates this yeere & for the Minisers rate those yt doe not of themselves agre with & satisfie Mr James soe but yt he doth applie himselfe to ye Collector for to get his due those psons in pticuler shall pay ye Collector's fees & not others yt doe agree of themselves with Mr James.


It is ye day & yeere above writen ordered by the Towne That all the drie heard shall be kept at meantaukut after corne is in & not be brought whom as formerly & ye dry Cattell yt are at Indian well to be driven to Muntaucut & the Towns- men are appointed by the Towne for to take care to see yt ye drie cattell are there kept & to hire a carefull heardsman if they can, but if not then they are to pcure some men whom they shall Judge to bee carefull in ye discharge of ye same & the Charge to bee borne by the cattell according to pportion.


it is ye day & yeere above mentioned agreed by a Maior voate yt the Scoole Master shall Teach the Chilldren dureing the Terme of halfe a yeere more : & to have for his soe doeing as formerlie & if any yt have had their Children formerlie Taught by him are against it : They are spedillie to manifest the same to the Townsmen.
