tees of the ffreeholders and Comonalty of the towne of East- Hampton & their Successors forever To be holden of his said Majesty his heires and Successors in free and Comon Soccage according to the Mannor of East Greenwich in the County of Kent within his Matyes Realme of England Yeilding rendring and paying therefore yearly and every yeare from henceforth unto our Soveraigne Lord the King his heires and Successors or to such officer or Officers as shall be appointed to receive the same the sume of one lamb or the value thereof in Cur- rant money of this Province upon the five & twentyeth day of march at Newyorke in full of all rents or former reserved rents services acknowledgments and demands whatsoever. And further by vertue of the power and authority to me the said Thomas Dongan Given as aforesaid and in pursuance of the same and for the reasons and consideracons aboverecited I have willed determined declared and granted and by these presents do will declare determine and grant that tbe said In- habitants and ffreeholders the ffreemen of Easthampton afore- said Comonly called by the name of the ffreeholders and In- habitants of the towne of Easthampton or by whatever name or names they are called or named and their heires and Succes- sors forever henceforward are and shall be one body Corporate and politique in Deed and name by the name of the Trustees of the ffreeholders and Comonalty of the towne of Easthamp- ton and them by the name of the Trustees of the ffreeholders and Comonalty of the town of Easthampton one body corporate and Politique in Deed and name I have really and fully for his said Majesty his heires & Successors Erected made or- dained constituted and declared by these presents and that by the same name they have succession forever and that they and their successors by the name of the Trustees of the ffreehold- ers and Comonalty of the towne of Easthampton be and shall be forever in future times persons able and Capable in law to have perceive receive and possess not only all and singular

the premisses but other messuages lands Tenements Privi- ledges Juricdicions ffranchises and hereditaments of whatso- ever kinds or species they shall be to them and their Succes- sors in ffee forever or for the terme of a yeare or years or otherwise whatsoever manner it be and also goods Chattells and all other things of whatsoever name nature quality or Species they shall be and also ro give grant release aliene as- signe and dispose of lands tenements hereditaments and all and every other thing and things act and acts to do and execute by the name aforesaid and that by the same name of the Trustees of the ffreeholders and Comonalty of the towne of Easthampton to plead and be impleaded answer and be answered unto defend and be defended they are and may be capable in whatsoever place and places and before whatsoever judges & Justices or other persons or of- ffcialls of his said Majesty his heires and Successors in all and all manner of actions plaints suites Complaints causes matters and demands whatsoever of what kind quality and species the same be and shall be in manner and forme as any other of his Majestyes Liedge people within this Province can or are able to have require receive possess enjoy retaine give grant re- lease aliene assigne and dispose plead and be impleaded an- swer and be answered unto defendand be defended do permitt or execute
And for the better enabling the Trustees of the ffreeholders and Comonalty of the towne of Easthampton aforesaid in doe- ing and executeing all and singular the premisses I have willed granted & determined and by thesepresents do will grant and determine that from henceforward and forever hereafter the said Trustees of the freeholders & comonalty of the towne of Easthampton do & may have and use a Comon seale which shall serve to Execute the causes and affaires whatsoever of them and their Successors And further I will and by these presents in be halfe of his said Majesty his heires and Succes-

sors that henceforward forevermore there be and shall be Trustees of the ffreeholders & comonalty of the towne of East- hampton aforesaid to be chosen and elected as in these presents hereafter in menconed who shall be and shall be cal- led the Trustees of the ffreeholders & comonalty of the towne of Easthampton and they and their Successors shall and may at all convenient times hereafter upon a publique Sumons to be obtained at the request of any three of the Trustees afore- said from any of his Matyes Justices of the peace of the said Towne or for default thereof from any of the Justices of the County of Suffolke for the time being assemble and meet to- gether in the towne house of the said towne or in such other publique place as shall be from time to time appointed to make such acts and orders in writeing for the more orderly doing of the premisses as they the said Trustees of the free holders and Comonalty of the towne of Easthampton afore- said and their Successors from time to time shall and may think convenient so alwayes as the said acts and order be in nowayes repugnant to the laws of England and of this Province which now are or hereafter may be established and that they be not in any wise against the true intent and meaning of these presents

Thomas Talmage Lievt John Wheeler Ensigne Samuell Mull- ford John Mullford Thomas Chatfield Senior Jeremiah Conkline Stephen Hand Robert Dayton Mr Thomas Backer Thomas Osborne to Stand and be the first moderne Trustees of the ffree- holders & Comonality of the towne of Easthampton to con- tinue in the aforesaid office from and after the date of these presents untill the time that others be elected and chosen in their stead According to the manner and forme herein after ex- pressed And moreover I do by thess presents for and on behalfe of his most Sacred Majesty aforesaid his heires and Succesorss appoint that the Trustees of the ffreeholders & Comonalty of the towne of Easthampton Constables and assessors within the towne of Easthampton aforesaid Be yearly chosen on the first tuesday of Aprill forever (Vigt :) twelve Trustees of the ffree- holders and Comonalty of the towne, of Easthampton two Constables and two Assessors in such publique place as the Trustees for the time being shall appoint and direct and that the Trustees Constables and Assessors be Chosen bythe Major- ity of voices of the ffreeholders and freemen of the towne of Easthampton aforesaid And Lastly I give and grant For and on behalfe of his said Majesty his heires and Successors by those presents to all and every person and persons and to whatsoever person subject to his said Majesty his heires and Successors free and lawfull power ability and authority that they or any of them any messuages Tenements lands mead- ows feedings pastures woods underwoods rents revercons ser- vices and other hereditaments whatsoever within the said County of Suffolke which they hold of his said Majesty his heires & Successors unto the aforesaid Trustees of the ffree- holders and Comonalty of the towne of Easthampton and their Successors shall and may give grant bargaine sell and alienate To have hold & enjoy unto the said Trustees of the freehold- ers and Comonalty of the towne of Easthampton and their Successors forever Yeilding and paying therefore unto his said

BOOK A Page c-1 .- At a meeting of ye Trustees of ye free- holders & Comonaltie of ye Towne of Easthampton it is agreed & ordered by them yt there should a Rate bee made to the vallue of Two hundred Pounds in currant money of this Province yt is one Hundred & Twentie pounds upon ye al- lotments of ye Purchasors & Proprietors of this Towne at home according to every mans allotment in devision of land And fourescore Pounds to bee Raised uppon ye land at Mean- taucut according to every mans share or Interest there & this to be Raised to defray Charge about the Patten of such as have Interest as above specified & by noe others Alsoe it was agreed & ordered yt a rate bee made to defray Charge yt did arise about mens Protests to ye vallue of soe much as ye Charge shall arise unto and this to bee Levied uppon ye Pur- chasors and Proprietors according to their allottments at home

The day & yeere above written at a meeting of ye Trastees being Legally assembled Together : for ye use & benifit of this Towne have ordered yt every pson yt is Conserned in ye generall Plaine line fence Shall have his pticuler part of fence set upp & in good repaire against Trespas of Cattell & yt from East to west of all ye plaine fence & yt betwene this & the Twentieth day of this Instant Aprill & yt uppon ye Penaltie of 2s 6d a pole in Currant money of this Province for the use of ye right owners & Improvers of ye generall feild & yt for every pole of fence which is not set upp & repaired by yt day. Book A page 282 .- [Abstract] Know all men by these presents that I John Edwards of Easthampton in ye County of Suffolk on Long Island for Divers good Causes & Consides- ations me hereunto moveing as alsoe for a valuable Sum of Money by me in hand Received have Bargained & Sold unto Thomas Mullford of Easthampton aforesaid one halfe part or Share of all my Interest in that tract or parcell of land for- merly by me Bought of Mr Thomas James John Mulford Senior and Jeremiah Conckling Lying & being Eastward of a Pond Knowne by ye name of fort pond by which it is Bound- ed towards the west . & to ye Eastward with a Ditch which Runneth into ye Pond Comonly called yegreat pond Towards ye South with ye maine Ocean or South Sea : & Northerly by ye Indians land ; Together with all the Proffitts Comodities and Conveniences there to belonging : as alsoe whensoever ye said land shall be laid out or Divided one full and Compleate halfe part or Share Either in quantity quallity or both of all my said Right and Interest therein & to his heires To have and to hold for ever : without Molestation

EASTHAMPTON Aprill ye 13 : 1687
Book 4, page 15 .- The Trustees of ye freeholders & Com- monaltie of ye towne of Easthampton being Legallie asembled Together ; Have ordered yt ye land at Meantaucit ye hither end from Napeak to ye fort pond be survaid by six men & alsoe yt land which is betwene ye fort pond & ye great pond soe much as is alreadie purchased Alsoe it is ordered yt ye land above sd shal bee fenced in at yemost Convenient place & yt the land shall lie in Comon for the Proprietors thereof untill further order ; And that not any one shall have libertie to lett sell or dispose of any part or priveledge in turning Cattle there : of any other person or persons but his owne without the Consent of the Trustees And then it shalbe granted yt they shall have libertie uppon Reasonable termes to put such number of Cattle there as they shall agree for & have ye Consent of ye trustees xcept those that live out of the limits of ye towne which are hereby prohibited and if any one of the Proprietors or purchasors shall presume directly or Indirectly to let sell or dispose of or take in any beast or beasts without ye Consent of the Trustees ; they yt soe let or sell shall forfeit as a fine to the proprietors thereof the full and Just sum of Ten shillings in Currant money of this pro- vince for every beast put on their account Contrarie to this order. It is also ordered by ye Trustees aforesaid yt by rea- son of ye great Damage yt swine are readie & subject to doe in corne & for to prevent the same as much as may be.
It is agreed by a Major voate yt all swine yt goe in ye Towne or Limits thereof unyoaked are poundable by any par- son yt shall soe find them & ye owners of such swine shall

pay twelve pence for each swine soe pounded & if any swine bee found within fence yt doth belong to ye plaine or other Inclosed land : if unyoked to pay double ; & all Damage be- side Though they bee yoaked.
It is alsoe Ordered ye day yeere above written by ye Trustees aforesaid yt all psons yt have sheepe shall keepe & Maintaine a good sufficient ram to goe with ye flock in ye season when Rams are to bee with ye sheere & yt for every Ten Ewes & soe proportionable of their number of Ewes be more & yt uppon ye forfiture of paying as a fine to ye use of ye owners of ye flock where such Ewes are kept ye full & Just sum of five shillings in Currant Marchantable pay ; And all Rams are to bee freede from paying Rates.
It is further Ordered yt if any horses or horse kind bee found in ye Comon Streetes or any where betwene ye Jeen Eastward And ye westermost Close in Georgeke first neck and they bee not sufficently hopled or ffettered it shalbee Lawfull for any person to put those Creatures in ye pound & ye owners of any such horses or horse kind soe Pounded shall pay ye sum of one shilling in Marchantable pay to those yt pounded them And it is to bee understood only such horses or horse kind as are kept up for mens use.

Book 4, page 16 .- Whereas it hath bene tollerated by an order made by ye Trustees of This Towne bearing dato ye 13 day of aprill for an orderly baiting of oxen in ye generall Corne feild for ye securing of peoples necesities in respect to their more Convenient planting : But now understanding ye great abuse of ye said Tolleration severall waies : These are to give notice yt it is ordered by ye trustees of this towne yt after ye publication hereof if any oxen bee found within ye generall line belonging to ye generall Corne feild unyoaked or turned in or put there ; either with keeper or without shalbee liable to be pounded & every ox or horse soe pounded ye owner of them shall pay to ye pounder one shilling & alsoe to pay to ye use of ye freehoulders a fine to ye vallue of five shillings in Currant Marchantable pay : And duble damage where any shall accrue thereby provided this doe not prohi- bit persons from pasturing their oxen or horses within their ye saiá line & well fenced.

Page S2 .- know all men by these presents yt I Samuell Daniell of Easthampton in ye County of Suffolke in ye Province of New York on Long Island Blacksmith for divers good Causes & Considerations me hereunto moveing & more especially for ye Certaine sum of six pounds & five shil- lings of good Currant Pay of this Province alreadie by me in hand of Mr Thomas Stevens received have Bargained & sould unto him ye said Thomas Stevens and his heires for ever all yt my lott of land sittuate Lying & being in ye bounds of ye said Easthampton at a place commonly called and knowne by ye name of Lillie hill & is by Estimation six acres : of land bee ye same more or bee it less as it is this day Bounded Southeast by a lott of Samuell Parsons and Southwest by a lott of Edmund Shaw & towards ye Norwest a corner Butting against the high way & towards ye Northeast bounded by ye Sand hills as it was ye lott of land belonging unto my de- ceased grandfather William Edwards & given unto me by my ffather in Law : John Edwards of ye said Easthampton : To have and to hold in fee simple forever without any molesta- tion
