His father left him half of his estate, after other bequests, provided he should leave the life of a seaman and take care of his mother. The distribution, April 8, 1708, was made to the widow Abigail, and £73-16-5 to each of the follow- ing children : Daniel, John, Benjamin, Nathan, Mary, wife of Jonathan Wakely, Hannah, wife of John Parruek, and Sarah Beardsley.

On Jan. 6, 1724-5, this Daniel Beardslee gave to his son John "a piece of land in the Farfield, in Beardslee's Neck," and to John he gave his " dwelling, barn and lot in Stratford " village, that is, the old homestead of the first William.

He died, probably, in the beginning of the year 1667, the inventory of his property being dated March 29, 1667, and amounted to £78.

· In the old Brand book, page 33, is the following: "Widow Elizabeth Beardsley, or Goodwife Dayton, for her children y' 26th Feb. 1669, hath a sorrel mare colt, year old this spring, with a streaked hoof, sorrell mane and tayle. For ye children aforesaid a kinde of a dunnish black horse colt a year old this spring."
The fact that he and his widow had lands divided to them without buying them indicates inheritance of the same from William.

The inventory of his estate amounted to £1,000, he having given much to his children years before. The will of his widow, Ann, was dated April 23, 1748, by which the marriages of several of her children are shown.

76. Benjamin, son of Daniel (son of Samuel of Stratfield) and Rebecca (Jack- son) Beardsley, m.
He settled on Chestnut hill, at what is now the four corners a little way east of the Chestnut Hill school-house. His dwelling stood on the northwest corner, for when he deeded this homestead to his son David it was bounded south and east on highway." That this Benjamin is the son of Daniel is proved by the deed given by Mary Beardsley, who, Aug. 11, 1733, calls him and his brother David, deceased, her brothers. The relation of Benjamin to Daniel as his father and to David as his son is proved by several other land records.t Benjamin's will was dated Nov. 3, 1759, and proved April 7, 1761 ; and in it he says he has "already given his homestead and 30 acres at White plains" to his "eldest son David," and that having already given £300 to his "eldest daughter Lois Porter he gives her five shillings" only.
In the distribution as well as in his will his sons Joseph, Benjamin. Stephen are mentioned, and his daughter Ruth. In the distribution of his
