This order respects Stratford, Fairfield, and Norwalk." (Hart. Rec., Vol. II, 102.) John Welles m. in Stratford, Elizabeth Bourne, a young woman who came to New England with Arthur Bostwick.
His will was dated Oct. 19, 1659, and he died soon after, as he was de- ceased when his father died, the next January. In his will he says : " I give to my beloved wife, Elizabeth Welles, all that which is due to her in England and {40, to carry with her if she please to goe to England." He also gave his son Robert to his father to be educated, and although the grand- father died a little more than two months after. Robert went to Wethersfield and lived and died there, receiving a considerable portion of his grandfather's estate.
