2. Jonas, son of Henry and Alice Tomlinson, m. Hannah -. He lived in Derby on Great Hill, occupying a large tract of land given him by his father, and which the father purchased, with Joseph Hawley, of the Indians. His wife's name was Hannah, and her estate was distributed Feb. 4, 1722-3. to her four children.


From the will of Jonas Tomlinson the names of his four children are taken.

She was the dau. of Samuel Wells, of Wethersfield, and died June 29, 1694. He m. 3d, wid. Abigail Brown, April 14, 1702. He died Mar. 5, 1727-8.


His residence was in Derby several years before the decease of his father, in 1681, but after that event and perhaps for a few years previous he made his residence on the homestead given him by his father in Stratford village.

He was a farmer. and had a large landed estate. His will was dated Mar. 27, 1739, and proved April 27, 1739, and in it he mentions his wife Lois and all of his children given below except Mary.

45. Doct. Agur, son of Zechariah and Hannah (Beach) Tomlinson, m. Maty, dau. of Rev. Hezekiah Gold. She was born in 1723, and died June 23, 1802, aged 79. He died Feb. 15, 1774. aged 53. He was graduated at Yale College in 1744; in the class with William Samuel Johnson, Timothy Dwight, Leverett Hubbard, and Samuel Tracy. He studied medicine and settled in Stratford as a practicing physician, and became quite noted, and many anec- dotes are told of his eccentricities in his practice.


His home was on Main street, on the corner now occupied by Mr. George A. Talbot.

48. Capt. Beach, son of Zechariah and Hannah (Beach) Tomlinson, m. Charity, dau. of Josiah Shelton, Oct. 25, 1752. She died in Huntington, Nov. 19, 1809, aged 72 years. He died Nov. 11, 1817, 91 years of age. He was an enterprising farmer ; a Captain of a Company, and served in the Revolution, under Genl. David Wooster. He acquired a large property, securing much of it by speculation in Continental money. He was a large stockholder in the Derby Turnpike. He possessed a remarkable memory ; knew the whole . genealogy of the Tomlinson family ; and was a very active man until the close of his life. He owned land in Vermont and went every year to it to collect rents in money and cattle ; and on one return trip, being alone, carrying con- siderable money, was pursued by robbers, but escaped them by jumping his horse down a steep bank into the Onion river, and his horse swimming the river brought him safely home. Captain Beach possessed remarkable strength both of body and mind, and was an extensively and favorably known citizen.
