Third Wheeler Family.
1. Wheeler, Sergt. Ephraim, brother to Thomas Wheeler, Sen., of Fair- field, came from England, probably, in the company of the Rev. John Jones, to Concord, Mass., where he was made a freeman March 13, 1639. He came to Fairfield in 1644 with Mr. Jones' company, having a wife and one child, if not two. He became a large land-holder and leading citizen.
In his will, dated Sept. 22, 1669, he mentions his wife Ann, and the follow- ing children, giving all his " lands and housings" to his three sons, Samuel, Timothy and Ephraim ; and giving Isaac, Mary and Ruth 10, each, they hav- ing had their shares previously, and giving Hannah £15. She having had part of her share, and giving Rebecca, Judith and Abigail, each £30, and to his wife " Ann all my other estate."
The inventory was taken Oct. 28, 1670, amounting to {1026 : 18º. 6d. His widow, in 1681, paid tax on 706 acres of land. One of Ephraim Wheeler's daughters m. Samuel Treadwell.

He was one of the first nine members of the Stratfield Congregational Church. He received from his father and mother a large quantity of land, and was a well-to-do farmer. His will was proved April 11, 1712.
