His first wife is spoken of as deceased, and he mentions his wife Sarah. He mentions his daughters Sarah Anne Marks, Sally Bethia Clark and Elizabeth Shelton, and sons Mordecai, Abraham and Hezekiah. He gave his "Negro man named Titus" his choice, to live with the widow or his two sons, and stipulates that he, Titus, should have "a Christian burial when he should

1. MEGGS, Mark, (prob. the same as written Meigs), a Miller, of Hunting- ton, L. I., in 1668, but in 1674, July 17, he "growing ancient and desirous to pass the remainder of my time quietly and without worldly incumbrance." contracted with Jacob Walker, of Stratford, for his maintenance, the latter taking Meggs' property and pledging him a comfortable and sufficient sup- port, but Mr. Walker did not prove true to his pledge. In 1681, James Smith, Thomas Skidmore, John Jackson and Isaac Platt, of Huntington. testified to the above facts, at Stratford ; and in 1689 the town of Stratford levied on Jacob Walker's estate {roo, for the support of Mark Meigs. He was evidently unmarried.

20. Lt. Ephraim, son of John, 2d, and Eunice (Bostwick) Middlebrook, m. Elizabeth Munson, Mar. 30, 1757. He was an officer in the Continental army at the breaking out of the Revolution, and in command of his company took part in the battle of Ridgefield under Gen. Benedict Arnold, and was killed in that engagement April 7, 1777, aged 41 years. He also served under Gen. Washington at the seige of New York. He was buried with the honors of war at Long Hill, in Trumbull, Ct., May 3. 1777. His widow Elizabeth died Feb. 16, 1812, in her 73d year.
