The place takes its name from the lake upon which it is situated, which in turn de- rives its name from a curious rock forma- tion at its lower end, which the antiqua- rians and geologists have never yet come to a satisfactory conclusion in regard to-as to whether it is a natural formation produced by the action of ice on a remnant of the work of prehistoric man. It has excited a good deal of discussion, and drawn to the locality many curious visitors. This, with the natural beauty of the place, the fine fishing in the lake, and its ready accessibil- ity by rail, have made Walled Lake quite a popular place of summer resort, and an ex- cellent hotel is maintained there.
