Now let me speak with you of some matters which are essential to our highest good. You will bear with me if I speak plainly, remembering that I do it in love.

I regret to say that far too great a number are sowewhat careless and in- different with regard to the regular services of the clAirch. This is doubtless due to the fact that you have not re- flected upon the seriousness of such neglect. Permit me therefore to "stir up your pure minds by way of remember- ance" to the importance of a regular attendance upon the Lord's Day services at least. Both by precept and by prece- dent in the New Testament are we en- joyned not to forsake the assembling of ourselves together, but to exhurt one another and "to provoke unto love and good works." Various incidents of the early churches recorded in Aets, inevit- ably lead us the conclusion that it was "the divine desire" that the Lord's children should meet at least as often as once a week for the purpose of commem- orating the Lord's death in the "Supper," and exhorting one another in all the holy requirements of our high profes- sion. My brethren, we can not safely fail to do this. Oar Saviour has not re- quired of us anything needless. Every item of Ilis revealed will is of primary importance to our highest development as Christians, to fail lo comply is to suffer, to rob ourselves of the blessed privileges intended for our improvement and edification in love. I am sure that you do not wish to be less than your Master would have you be, or less than He will make of you if you give yourself

into His loving care. Our services are usually helpful. We try. at least, to make them refreshing, inspiring and cheerful. Circumstances sometimes m- terpose and unavoidably mar the serenity and beauty of the service, but it is mir purpose to crowd these out as much as possible that it may more and more he- come a joy and a privilege to attend. You can help in this. Your regular presence cheers us, it gives strength and power to the service; it adds to The number present, and lends an influence for good to those who may be strangers lo our Lord Jesus Christ. Is there a more beautiful sight in all this world than a church filled with earnest wor- shipers, eager to give Testimony of their joy and hope in the Gospel of God's grace. Such a sight is in itself a bene- diction to any soul and will result in lasting good to every one.

May I not therefore exhurt you tu greater care in this regard, may | nul anticipate a hearty, an immediate re- sponse to this call to duty and to blessing. I believe that you will respond and that you will cheer us and br refreshed your- selves by constant and regular attendance at the church services.

One of the primary purposes for which the Church of Christ was instituted was the proclimation of the Gospel that the world might hear it and behove and thus, upon obedener lo it, be brought into possession of its blessings. The early churches were therefore, mission- ary churches. They were intensely in earnest about the salvation of men and women Upon the persecution which arose about Stephen the whole church at Jerusalem except the Apostle, was driven from the city, and they " that were scattered abroad went about preaching the word." The intensity of these early disciples in the work of evangelism is one of the striking fea- tures of their history. The church should always be evangebstic in its spirit. It should be ever striving to add to the number of the saved and when it fails in this holy enterprise it de- serves and usually receives the judge- ment of God. Like the tree upon which Jesus found "nothing but leaves .only" It is destined to wither and dir.

The effort to save the unsaved should not be confined to any special season of the year but should be constant and con- linual. All around us are those who have never seriously considered their eternal interests, and are only waiting to

Have some dar, by sihir schile word la them to reflect upon their need of a Savior. We should be alert lo such op fortumties and should prize them as heavenly messages calling as to duty and to privilege They are like the visit of the angel of the Lord to Philip and should be as carefully heeded.

There are however special spasons when it is well for the church tu give itself unreservedlly to this work, when with great ernestress and repeated pleading. men and women should be eu- treated to turn and follow fases. Al such nimes all the members should be especially areused to do active service and should go from house to house bear- the the message of love and tie to Just humanity We approach such a season. It is our purpose to hold an ryangehste meeting before the end of the year and to this end let us labor and pray that many somals may be born nde the king- dom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

The church is represented to us in thie N. T. as a family and all its members as brethren, God is our father and Jesus Christ is our elder brother Surely this is an endearing relationship and happy in the church that realizes n. The hl- lowship of those who formed the list church is a beautiful ryampde to us of what is possible and what should be real- ized. The form may not be expedient but the . pirit certainly is. They allowed no man to suffer for the want of any thing they had. One mans plenty was every mans supply, and one mans need was every mans need. What they had they freely distributed for the good of all.

But it was not alone in material things that this fellowship was mamfest They were of "one heart and soul." The dis- tribution of material things was but one form of expressing the spiritual unity which existed among them. They had a brotherly and sisterly regard for rach other and sought in every way to strengthen the weak, lo comfort the sorrowing, and to relieve the distressed. Such fellowship is worthy of imitation. It should be the purpose of every disciple to at least know, and try to know inti- mately, every other disciple in the local church. There should be frequent in- terchange of calls and a genial welcome among all the brethren. These matters are far too greatly neglected. We are too indifferent to the welfare and happiness of those whom we call our brothers and

sisters in Christ. The sorial strain to. which each one may b hing should hive huile or no weight in the allais of the household of faith If the thurch hay any mission it is to bft mpe the fallen and relieve the distressed and sorrowmig. There is no better way to do This than to mamfest a brotherly spinat to Theuse who are proudly subject to templation and hable to dall buistead of shunning such we should. always with proper regard for our ovh good name and character, seek especially to impress them with our earnest desire for their welfare and final

Our regular collections are not nearly sufficient to meet the running expenses of the church. We were in debt to our pastor Sept. 1, $100.00. He asked to have it then, and needed it badly for he has given nearly $400 to the church since May of this year. Instead of raising the amount we have fallen sull further behind. The cause of this is not hard to find. A great many of our members are failing al- most entirely to do their duty in this regard. Let tomorrow witness a change. It is time you were bringing forth fruits mele for repentance.

MIPORTANT ITEMS.

Failure to attend church without a good excuse, is a sure sign that the Devil has tiled his claim upon you.

If the Lord's house and the services therein have ceased to be interesting to you, it is high time you were turn- ing the search light upon yourself. It is probable you will find the trouble lies within.

A general invitation is extended to all the members of the church to come to Sunday School tomorrow morning. Let us make it a genuine ralley and a day of great blessing. There should be 200 present at least. Parents come and bring your children with you.

Remember the prizes that have been offered for new pupils. To the one bringing the greatest number to the S. S. $5.00 will be given, to the one bringing the second largest number $3.00 will be given. This offer holds good until the holidays. Let every one work for it. .

We should be getting ready for the meeting we expect to hold in Nov- ember. There are multitudes who are only waiting to hear a word from you. Say the word and be made to rejoice in their salvation. "He that wineth souls is wise." Be wise there- fore, and redeem the days from idle indifference.

The Lord's Day services should be largely attended. It is getting time of year when we should make much of the services.

We are planning for a revival in November or December. We had hoped to be able to make definite an- nouncement of the same before this time but cannot now.

Our National Christian Missionary Convention meets at Chattanooga, Tenn., Oct. 13th and continue to the . 2tst. We should have some dele- gates. Who will go?

Some of our obligations on the church building are becoming quite pressing. We should all begin to make our arrangements to pay another quarter on our pledges before the end of the year. The whole pledge would be very acceptable.

WORSHIP AND Bro. Henry R. SACRIFICE. Pritchard made the following suggestive remark not long ago in our presence. "The earliest worship was always attended with sacrifice, God requireed them to of: fer something they loved. The time has come when men love the almighty dollar better than anything else. It might be well to teach men to sacri- fice that which they love even now.";

THE STUDY OF The tour gos- CHRIST'S LIFE. pels, Matt. Mark, Luke and John are intended as his- tories ofthe life and teaching of the Sav- ior while he was in the world. There never have been written any histories of his lite and teaching quite equal lo these. We should therefore make; them the foundation of our study .? However much we may make other histories tributary to them, we should not loose sight of the fact that the tour evangelists have given to us the best and most accurate picture of this divine man as he lived among men and worked and taught. There is great need of a revival of the study of the Book itself. Helps become hinderences when we loose sight of their true purpose and fail to study the text to which they are intended to direct us. Study the Bible.
