It om churches will only keep the Jubilee idea betore them we will double the offering of last year; and and this must be done it we approach the Jubilee idea of $100,000 for Home Missions. The brethien have started a special lubilee Fund, personal sub- scription to be paid through the reg- ular offering of the church.

The Cincinnati brethren give through the church at the May allering, Over Stower to this special Jubilee Fund.

This movement has started at St. Louis, from there it is being carried to other places, and we shall rejoice m the prospect of its assumme the form of a very general effort to express our thanksgiving to the head of the chinch for the 2187 churches and the 87000 persons baptized by our Home Mas- ionaries.

There remain, but three things to be done to make this the greatest of- fering ever given by our botherhood. We shouldi pray the Lord tor Is blessing and help; when the church plays food stands ready to bless.

We should work hard to get all the people interested in this. com Jubilee Offering. Let even the children know of our Jubilee and the great work that has been done.

We should participate in the offer. ing, every man, woman and child, large gifts, small gitts, all giving, and then when we come to our great Juhi-

lee Convention we will be jubilant in- dead but we have accomplished a te. sult that will rejoke the head of the church.

We will call for you olching 1". morrow.

If you did not answer and your ad- dress on the Announcement wrapper is not correct notify us at once.

Our new directory will show about 500 names. We shall have the ac- curate address of nearly all of them, and shall have heard from a very large percentage of them either di- rectly or indirectly within the last week.

We were glad to receive four new members on last Sunday. Mrs. Viers and her daughter of 208 Nelson St., and C. E. Hadsel and his wife of 38 Baker St. Mrs. Hadsel will be bap- tized Sunday evening. There are quite a number of people who should place their membership with us before our new directory is published, and we hope they will do so.

ENTERTAINMENT OR We be- WORSHIP. WHICH? lieve that the service of the Lord's house, should be interesting, editying, inspiring and instructive, but that the mere enter- tainment feature should be reduced to the minimum. People should under- stand that the services of the sanct- uary are not to be placed in the cata- logue of entertainments, that they are not to be valued as one would value a performance at the theater. The supreme objects are, worship and Christian instruction and edification. When these give place to features de. signed simply or chietly to appeal to the sense of pleasure the church low- ers its dignity and works barm to il- self and the cause. We believe that every service should be characterized by reverance for God and the things of God, by an inspiring, editying ser- vice ot song in which the element of praise should play an important part, and by a clear, plain humble presentation of the truth as it is in Christ. Such a service may not, does not often attract the passing crowd because it does not directly furnish entertainment, but we are confident that in the long run it is the service that will yield honor to God and blessing to men. We ought to please God rather than men.

HOME On last Lord's Day we MISSIONS. made the appeal for an offering to the greatest work among our people at the present time, vis. the evangelization of America. The amount was very much smaller than we anticipated. We confidently be- lieve however, that there are manywho will yet contribute. We should have an offering from every member and it should be worthy the great cause which we seek to help.

THINGS WORTH REMEN- BERING.

The Christian religion aims to be all satisfying to the human soul.

It is impossible to conceive that God would make a human being and then make a religion for him which is not in every respect the complement of his nature.

The Christian religion is not meant to distort the soul, to develop man ab- normly. It is meant to give to him perfect symmetry. It is not intended to stitle natural human desires but to foster them.

Thus we see that joy is an abiding condition of the mind, a permanent attitude of the soul. It is not mater- ially altered by mere outward circum- stances. Hence Jesus, even under the shadow of the cross, could say, :"These things have I spoken unto you that My joy may be in you."

The peculiar lite which a Christian is expected to live in the normal life for the world. The Christian is pe- culiar because he is normal while everyone else is abnormal. Jesus was the only pertect man and he is the Christian's ideal.

Joy is not to be confounded with mirth or gayety. "These are the im- mediate results of external circum- stances. Joy is internal, the most vivid sensation of the soul, awakened in the mind by the most important events of lite".

When properly understood may we not find that what are commonly called self-denials crosses, and sacritices are but other names for our profound- est joys? Was not the whole minis- try of Jesus one of joy, though of self-denial and sacrifice of the purest and highest type? Have we ever sounded the depths of that utterance of the Savior. "It is more blessed to give than to receive."

ANNIVERSARY. The second an- niversary of the dedication of our new house of worship is approaching. We are anticipating a victorous occa- sion. The Financial Board of the church are about to mail a statement to each one who has made a pledge giving the amount still due. Many others who did not pledge will doubt- less feel inclined to assist in this great enterprise. Let us pull together as one man.

A baby girl made its appearance at the home of Sister Geo. McCormick, No. 14 Jackson Street, last Sunday morning.

ITEMS OF INTEREST TO ALL.

There never has been a time since our building began when the lovalty of our members to the church, and to Their own individual promises was more needed. With the help of each one now the financial affairs of the Church may be placed upon a solid business like basis. We must do this now. The strain under which our creditor's confidence have been placed for the past two years cannot be continued. We are in position to relieve it if we will. It remains for each one to say whether we will or not.

Every member of the church should make an effort this month to pay whatever balance is due on his or her pledge if you have made one, and it not, your duty to assist in paying for our house of worship is just as great. Let not one man or woman falter or hesitate now that a splendid victory is in sight.

STATEMENTS have been sent this week to every one who has con- tributed to our building fund since dedication. It is possible that some slight mistakes have been made, since the money has come very promiscu- ously, being handed to ditlerent part- ies to hand to the treaster at ditler- ent times. All this, with other things, has made it very difficult to keep the accounts and yet after very care- tuly going over the books, we can say that the most pamstaking ettort has been made to keep a correct record, and we believe that the mistakes in giving proper credit are very few, if indeed there are any at all. It there should be a mistake in your state- ment please be kind enough to report it directly to the Financial Secretary, who will gladly make corrections if necessary. As soon as the last in- staliment of the pledges is paid Bro. Eversole will present to the church a tull itemized account of all receipts and expenditures since dedication. It has been no small task to keep all these records but it has been taithtully done and the report will show that the affairs have been administered in the most business like way possible with the means at hand. We with- hold the itemized report until after June 25th, because that date will close up the accounts which Bro. Eversole held as treasurer of the board ot Trustees and he can then make it com- plete. In the meantime the statements sent out will be a testimony to each one of the faithfullness with which his or her individual account has been kept. See to it that it is closed by the time of our anniversary June 25.

The new Church Manuel and Di- rectory will be out in about a week.

CHILDREN'S DAY. Postponed to June uth.

The postponment of Children's Day was occasioned by several ur- gent reasons.

This will give the children another week to collect money for then Mls- sinatry pockets.

The educational feature of Child- ren's Day should be kept prominent. Our children should be made famihar with the great cause for which they give their nickles and dimes.

Let the music, the recitations and everything that is said contribute to the cause of missions, It is distinct- ively a missionary day. Let it be so observed. Let the children so under- stand it, and make it the happiest day in the year. Hurrah for Child- ren's Day.

AN ANCIENT INSCRIPTION.

In the ancient cathedral of Lubeck, in Germany, there is an old slab with the following inscription:

" I hus speaketh Chipstous Lord to us Ye call me Master, and obey me 1st. Ye call me light, and see me not; Ye call me Way, and walk me not: Ye call me Lite, and desire me not. Ye call me wise, and follow me not. Ye cali me Fair, and love me not. Ye call me Rich, and ask me not ; Ye call me eternal, and seek me not, Ye call me Gracious, and trust me not . Ye call me noble, and serve me not, Ye call me Mighty, and honor me nost . Ye call me Just, and tear me not, If 1 condemn you, blame me not." Exchange.
