ABOUT THE RALLY.
Bio, Donis will be henc.
We grow more hopeful of the re- sults as we approach the day.
Quite a number feel that we should raise more than $3,500 and are will- ing to do their share.
let us remember that the results of the day determines om tutine. Suc- cess now means a permanent and lasting victory tor om cause.
Bro. Donis says in a letter, "The West Jefferson Sheet church can meet the demands, and the only thing necessary itexas, 'We must and we will, Good being our helper,' and He is."
let the opening be made in view ol, first, the needs of the chinch, see- ond, in view of the fact that a worthy offering now will relieve us of the necessity of another for several years, third, that we mean to have the chinch placed entnely beyond any felt of loss. Let us make out ofher- ing a huge as we probly can with- out regard to what others may do.
This is a critical day. No one can tell how great are the bones which hinge upon it. God only knows what blessings may be pointed out months it we are true to our trust now. Let there who love the course be ready to do anything m their power to place it bevond the reach of inte lurking disaster. God is pro- ing UN Dow as he has not betone.

FINANCIAL STATEMENT.
The following is a summary report of last Lord's Days'enlort: Old pledges renewed $1,600.05.
New pledges to be held in trust until $2,500,00 in cash or ils equivalent is se- cured 1,380.55.
New pledges conditional on reducing the debt to $9,000.00 235.00
Total, $3,305.60.
The amount received in cash and its equivalent from new pledges and now in the trust fund $194.55.
Estimating the cash receipts from old pledges to be fully equal to the amount received (1,690,05), and it this is done we shall have to receive much from those which have not been renewed, since not all that have will be paid before Dec. 30, '99, it will still be necessary to raise $800 in new pledges to reduce the entire in- debledness to $9000. The financial board has resolved to try to do this
and will make a personal canvas to reach this result. It will not require any more new pledges than we started out to raise ($2,500) and it ought to be done. There are a num- ber who have not given who should, and some in large amounts and there ute many who should be easily per- suaded to double their present pledge in order to reach this desned result. We hope to have the assistance of Bio. 1 .. 1 .. Garpenter in making this personal canvass, and we sincerely be- heve that everyone will receive the matter Kindly, and respond cheerfully. Brethren, we can do this and we ought to do it. It will relieve us of embarrassment. It will give us con- tidence in ourselves. It will establish us in the community and seeme to us the respect of our fellow citizens. There is no time coming when it will be easier. In fact it will be harder the longer it is delayed. Let us do it now.

A CORRECT HISTORY.
In our published history of the history of our cause in this city which appeared in the Christian Guide some time since there are some inacmacies owing, to the fact that we haut to de- pend almost entirely upon the men- ory of a lew brethren who were not absolutely certain of their statements. In response to Bro. Avlswenth's let- ter to the church, we mailed him a copy of the Guide containing the above mentioned history, and since then he has written briefly giving the Correct account of the beginning of the work. He writes as follows: "The first service held in Fort Wayne was on Nov. 5, 1871. The first ser- mon was on " The Presence of (and." The first audience numbered about sixty and in the evening the number was about eighty. The disciples first found, banded together on Nov. 19. A lot was purchased in 1872 and a canvass for funds was begun. The foundation of the new building was laid in 1873 and the walls were car-
Tied up in 1874. The dedication the building not vet being finished but plastered, provided with windows and seated with chans, took place m 1875. I spent the summer of 1876 in Minnesota as an invalid. The Walker meeting was held the follow- ing winter. I preached my list ser- mon in Fort Wayne on the last Sun- day of Apul 1877. Though preach- ing in Syracuse a single seinen a week, I retamed my relation as pas- for at Fort Wayne and guided the movements of the church by letter until I secured a successor in 1 . 1 .. Carpenter in the Fall. M. M. Isla- son supplied the pulpit that summer, but was never regularly pastor of the church."
Speaking of Bro. Baton's conver- sion, Bro. A;isworth says that n was (. 1. Burgess who was immed- iately instrumental in leading him to a decision and not Fade Fueit as We stated. He made the confession how- ever, and was baptized by Bro Avls- weath himselt. In the letter referred to, Bmw, Avlsworth states that want the dedication Bm, Buton gave what amoumed to one-thnd of his prop- city. These are only slight coffee- tions but are published in the interest ot an accurate history. While no church should live m its past, it is well to cherishom memory the inci- dents of chiet importance since they serve as incentives ty noble effort and holy resolve. Bro. Avlsworth's let. ter will be spread on the minutes and hereafter it will not be dittheult to be- come acquainted with the beginnings of this great enterprise. We are, be- loved, the heirs of a noble heritage. Let us live worthily of it and press on to still greater achievements in the days which are to come.

HINTS WORTH HEEDING.
Attend the Services on Lord's Day.
Remember the bazar at the church next week.
Every lady in the church should feel an interest in the success of the bazar.
The end of the year approaches. The day of reckoning is close at hand. How does it stand with thee?
December twentieth is approach- ing. Let us not forget that on that day we have a duty to discharge.
Unfortunately the weather was bad last Lord's Day and we were informed that the audience, m the evening es- pecially, was small.
We heard good reports of Bio. Allen's sermons and doubtless they were appreciated. Bro. Allen is an old friend of your pastor's and we were happy to have him speak to you.
We are writing these notes in Bro. VanArsdall's study at South Bend. The meeting has started off with some
promise and we are hopetul of results, but it is too early to determine what may be the issue of thisetlont. Breth- ien, pray for us.
OUR VISIT Though it was a little TO HIRAM. out of our way and required us to leave home eather we counted it a choice privilege to visit the scenes of so many happy events in tommer days and the temporary home of several of our young peo- ple. By invitation of Bro. Fermin McCormick we went directly to his hospitable bome and found himself and wife and babies all in good health and spuits. Sister lilla Smith is with them and enjoying to the full the ad- vantages of the Hnam lite. She has decided not to return to Fort Wayne for a time at least and gave reasons for us to suspect that there are charms there which may never allow her to return. Sister Ada is very pleasantly situated with a very congenial young lady and is much absorbed in the allurements of school life. We were proud of the standing of all our voung people and delighted to hear the sey- eral professors speak so flattering ist then work. It was a pleasine to re- ceive from them such hospitable welcome and we are glad to record the visit as one of the very happy events of lite. At New Castle we wele entertained in the home of Hon. 1. W. Philips, who was a member of the hitty-third and fifty-fourth Con- gresses. He has a delightful home and entertamed us right royally. But were glad to get back home again and solly to have to leave so soon.
