ITEMS OF INTEREST TO ALL.
The meetings will be continued.
Your presence at the meeting will give strength and encouragement.
If you know of anyone whom you can induce to attend our meetings go after them.
The musical program which is an- nounced for Sunday evening will doubtless prove a great attraction.
Every week we get new expressions of appreciation of the Announcement. This is good and we are encouraged by it. If you would bring us some new subscribers we would appreciate that also.
Our audiences last Sunday were very good but we sincerely hope that they will be much larger tomorrow. We should have every seat taken at the evening service, to hear the musi- cal program which will doubtless be the finest we have ever had. The sermon also will be worthy of your attendance.
WHO WILL We began these meet. HELP US? ings largely on our own responsibility and will not com- plain it they are not hberally sup- ported. But this is true, not much will result from them without the help of many. One thing is certain, when we have done, some at least will feel that they have faithtully dis- charged their duty, and any lack of results will not justly be attributed to them. Others who have ignored the meetings will necessarily feel that an opportunity has been wasted, and what is more, will have to give an ac- count to God for their failure. In which class do you belong dear friend? Are you doing what you can to save the lost and to strengthen the cause in this city? God is looking down upon us and is measuring you in the light of these passing oppor- Innities, and today He is asking as of old. "Whom shall I send, and who will go tor us?" Are there not many who will answer now as Isaiah did? "Here am | Lord, send me."

JUBILLEE OFFERING HOME MISSIONS
THE AMERICAN CHRISTIAN MISSIONARY SOCIETY.
To this society we look tor statist- cal reports of our work as a people.
The year book for 1890 shows that we have in all lands 10,204 church organizations, 6,287 ministers, and 1,121,826 members.
The book also shows that we gave last year for all missions, home and toreign, $434,418 and that we raised for local church work including build- ing, etc., $4,370,600, and for general benevolences, orphans home, college endowment, etc., $385,481, making a grand total of $5, 190,449.
Of all our missionary enterprises this appeals to us with greatest force. It should have first place and be hon- ored with our largest gifts. "As goes America so goes the world." It is the purpose of this society to help America to go for Christ.

ABOUT OUR MEETINGS.
The meetings will continue another week at least.
Surely there are one hundred peo- ple who can come to church every evening next week.
We are not demanding the impos- sible nor asking the unreasonable when we urge you to support this special work as much as in you lies.
There never was a "good time" for a meeting if to be free from other duties is necessary for a "good time." Who is not busy the year round, and who tinds a season when he can, without some sacrifice of time and strength give attention to special meet- ings.
When we began the meetings we did not anticipate great crowds nor a great amount of enthusiasm but we did anticipate a prayertul interest on the part of our members. This has been only partly realized, but we are still hopeful and shall continue tu labor and pray. The prospect grows brighter.
SUNDAY To any thoughtful person DESECRATION. the mroads which are being made from vear to vear, upon our civil Sabbath are nothing less than alarming. Beginning with next sunday the great rail roads will run Sunday excursions out of and into nearly every city in the Union during the entire summer; and what Is worse the special inducements which are presented to the people to secure their patronage, are ball games and uther open violations of the law. This makes the day one of ammuse- ment chiefly, and, leaving the harm this works to religion out of the ques- tion entirely, one wonders what can be the thought of those who thus thrust at the very vitals of our civil institutions. Are these men blind to to the plain facts of history? Are they ignorant of the sad conditions in France and Spain, which, confesedly. are due, in part at least to just such acts of lawlessness? Let those who want a European Sabbath remember that we cannot have it unless it be ac- companied with other things, which every lover of liberty must depluie. In view of all ihs, and much more that should be said, the duty of every Christan is plain. Let the day be sacredly kept, not as a holiday but as a day ot rest from busy worldly cares and of recreation in Christian service. A quiet stroll in parks is not ainjec- tionable, but a mingling in throngs of amusement seekers such as go on Sunday excursions is worse than oh- jectionable, it is damnable and soul destroying.
We were glad to see Sister Dunbar at church last Sunday atter so long an absence on account of sickness. We were pleased also with Mrs. Wood- hull's presence in the evening.

ITEMS OF INTEREST TO ALL.
We are told that several hundred people left the city last Sunday on excursion trains. "What is that to thee follow thou me."
The people that went on any of the excursions Sunday spent at least one dollar each. If they had ever attended church and been asked for more than a penny they would have condemned the church as "eternally begging for money."
So far as we now know the special meetings will close this week. They have not resulted in as much good as we hoped and anticipated, but we feel contident that the effort has not been in vain. The season may have been unfavorable and the people may have been unusually busy, and we accept these as worthy excuses for quite a large number of our members. We trust that ere the year shall close we may see a united effort on the part of all our people to save the lost. To this end let us labor.
CHURCH Since the beginning of LETTERS. the year quite . num- ber have asked for letters and some have been granted, others have for the present been withheld, and for the tullowing reasons:
It was understood at the beginning of the year that a person should not he eligible to a letter of good standing unless at least, annual dues had been paid. Thismay have not been as fully understood as it should have been and so we have been requested to publish this statement. This may seem a little severe at first but we believe that people should understand that the church cannot meet its obligations with simple promises any more than other institutions. No one is in good standing in any lodge until dues are paid, why should they be in the church? We will, however, gladly make exceptions to this rule in cases where it is impossible for the person to pay it it in other respects their standing is good. A dollar is a small amount to ask from each one but it amounts to a great deal when all pay. We teel that it should be cheerfully paid and we trust that hereafter no one will request a letter until it is paid. It may be said in this connection that less than one-fourth of our member. ship have responded with payment.
STATE The State Convention of CONVENTION. the I. C. M. S. and the State Ministeral Association will be held at Irvington Tuesday, Wed- nesday and Thursday of next week. A very excellent program has been announced and a large attendance is expected. We tried to secure this convention for Fort Wayne but did not succeed. We think, however, that we can secure it for next year if you want it. The board has already voted to invite it. What say you?

THE AMERICAN CHRISTIAN MISSIONARY SOCIETY.
The work betore this society is ap- parent trom the facts herein stated.
The area of the United States is larger than all Europe, the agricultural resources when fully developed would feed ten hundred million people. Na- tions like men have then formative period, through which the United States is now passing.
Europe could send us a million em- igiants each year for a century, and yet steadily increase her own popula- tion.
Rome with characteristic tore- thought is concentrating her strength in the cities and in the western states. Mormonism hohls the balance of power in six western states and will soon dictate the selection of twelve United States Senators.
Nearly one-third of our entire pop- ulation live in cities of over 5,000 in- habitants. Rome is perfectly satis- fied it we consent to remain away from the cities and leave them to her control.
In Michigan there are one hundred communities of over 300 population destitute of any church. In Nebraska there are twenty tive such communi- ties, in South Dakota there are titty. America Christianized means the world Christianized.
This is the jubilee of the American Christian Missionary Society. 1.or the sake of home, children, native land and the world let every Christ- ian lend a helping hand now .
Now that your earthly house is cleaned how about the house of the Spirit; is it a tit place for the Spirit to dwell?

ITEMS OF INTEREST TO ALL.
This is Jubilee year.
The Home Society should come to the front this year.
Our offering will help to place it there. Let us remember it.
The Jubilee Convention is to be held at Cincinnati, Ohio, Oct. 13 to 20, 99. Arrange to attend.
We are planning to run an excur- sion from Ft. Wayne to Cincinnati during the convention. 500 people should go from here over the G. R. & L. R. R.
In the meantime let us labor with renewed energy in the home field. Do not forget that there is work to be done for the cause of Christ in Fort Wayne, and that the support of all should be given to this work. Be at the regular services and help with your presence at least.
MAY. There is no more beautiful month in the year than May with all its evidences of returning lite, and its abundant promises of fruitage. It is the month of bright green foliage which forms a beautiful background to the brighter flowers that grow be- tween. It is the month when one longs for the woods and fields of the open country, where he can satisty to the full his love of the beautiful and be retreshed by the breezes made trag. rant by the scent of buds and flowers. Everything is putting on a new dress of gorgeous beanty, Dull is the eve and feeble the sense of the beautiful that does not behold with protound pleasure all these evidences of the goodness of Him who careth for us. After all there is nothing so beautiful as nature itself, which speaks to us so forcibly of its Author. Surely we may look "through natune up to na- ture's God" in this month of growth and promise.
CHILDREN'S DAY. In three weeks children's day will be here and it should be sacredly observed. Of all the special days in the year this one should be full of interest and enthus- iasm. It is the day especially when the children make their offerings to the work of the Lord in all the world. Let us get ready for it and let us all try to do our tull part in making it a day of joyful service. Doubtless some arrangements will be made next Sunday morning for its celebration.
The Angola people will join us in the excursion. So also will the dele- gates hom other churches. Let us talk it up and get a large delegation from our own church.
