We were very sorry to learn of the sickness of Clarence Rich.

A note from Sister Hobbs intorms us that the C. W. B. M. services were highly complimented. We are happy to know also that it was well at- tended.

We were very sory indeed to have to leave so abruptly last Lord's Day morning. The train we took is often Lite and we hoped that it would be that morning but it was not. While the sermon was very briet there was enough in it of pure food for thought for a whole week. Think it over, dear friends.

A NATIVITY SONG.

Sound over all waters, reach out from all lands, The chorus of voices, the clasping of hands; Sing hymns that were sung by the stars of the morn, Sing songs of the angels when Jesus was born! With glad jubilations Bring hope to the nations! The dark night is ending and dawn has begun; Rise, hope of the ages, arise like the sun, All speech flow to music, all hearts beat as one!

Sing the bridal of nations! with chorals of love, Sing out the war vulture and sing in the dove; Tell the hearts of the people keep time in accord, And the voice of the world is the voice of the Lord. Clasp hands of the nations In strong gratulations: The dark night is ending and dawn has begun, Rise, hope of the ages, arise like the sun, All speech flow to music, all hearts beat as one!

Blow bugles of battle, the muches of peace, East, west, north and south, let the long quarrel cease. Sing the song of great joy that the angels began. Sing of glots to God and of good will to man' Haik! Joining the chorus The heavens bend o'er us! The dark night is ending and dawn has begun , Rise. hope of the ages, arise like the sun, All peech thow to music, all hearts best as the!

CHRISTMAS GREETINGS.

Merry Christmas to all our readers. Let the Christmas season be one of glidness.

The angel brought tidings of great joy to all the people.

On that first Christmas day there was born unto us a Savior, which is Christ, the Lord.

"The birth of Jesus opened a well- spring of hope in the wide desert of human despair."

"The coming of Christ introduced an era of peace on earth and good will among men which has been growing in power and extent through all the centuries."

"It is not strange that as the cen- turies roll by the world is gathering more and more under the banner of this King of humanity, whose birth we are celebrating these Christmas times. May He be born anew in all our hearts and reign therein with In- creasing power over all our lives.

Bro. W. H. Jackson is improving steadily and hopes soon to be out.

GOOD LITERATURE.

Both the Christian Standund and the Christian Evangelist are making splendid offers to subsenbers for the ensing year. The Standard com- pany is offering to send the paper one year to any address for the small sum $$ $1.00, and the Evangelist will be sent for the same price, provided lifts Copies are taken, and all may be sent to one address. These are both ex- cellent papers and should be read, at least one of them, by all our people. Nothing moines the continued growth of a chinch more than the reading ol om own papers, which are filled with messages from hearts that are atline with the Mester's love. to be an acuve Christian one must of heces sty be enlightened on the movements of the brotherhood in the field. Sub- werbe for one of these papers.

AN ENCOURAGE We are very ING REPORT. glad to report that many of those who made pledges at om rally service are paying prompt- ly all they pledged. There is now in the trust fund about $500. (hver S-loo of this is m cash deposited to our credit in the White National Bank. The remainder is in receipts given by those whose pledges covered accounts in full or in part which they helt against the church, and represent so much of our debt pand. In addi- tion to this about $100.00 has been paid on old pledges since Nov. 19th. We are glad to present so good a re- port, but sincerely trust that the re- ceipts will be many times as great be- tore the end of the year. Many hun- dred dollars should be received in time to report next week. What a glad beginning of the new year it would be it all these pressing obliga- ions against us could be wiped off the docket. Let us work to that end.

A WORD OF AC- Since this KNOWLEDGMENT. may be the last issue of THE ANNOUNCEMENT we wish to express your gratitude to the young people who, during the past year, have faithtully attended to the work of mailing. First of these to be mentioned is Bro. Elva Hutup who has, with a punctuality and sense of responsibility rarely excelled, super- intended the work of wrapping and mailing the paper each Friday evening during the year. Bro. Long has been his faithful assistant, and Bro. Frank Price has often helped. Sister Fannie Mulligan is also deserving of mention for faithful and efficient service. Be- sides these there are a number of others who have rendered cheerfully whatever service has been asked of them. To all of these the readers of THE ANNOUNCEMENT are indebted, as without their work its publication would have been an impossibility.

THE PAST At the beginning of YEAR. the year, now so near to its close, we had high hopes for the future of our church. It is needless to say that not all of these have been

realized. A careful survey, however, of all that has been accomplished will by no means lead to disconagement, but on the contrary will inspire with hope. It we should undertake to chronicle our failures we would not be without material, but it, on the other hand, the evidences of growth and advancement be sought they would not be hard to find. It is not our purpose here to review the year's work, as the several items of interest will be brought out in the reports presented af our annual meeting. We only wish to start the thought of each one along the hoes of the church work, and to this end we wish to prepare the following question for each one to ponder : To what extent am I responsible for either the failures or successes of the year 1899>

FINANCIAL Our building fund STATEMENT. receipts were m- creased since our last issue by about $135 00, and there is promise of que a large increase between now and the close of the year. Ot the above amount SoQue was on an old pledge, and the balance was put in the trust fund, increasing that in cash and receipts to nearly $000.00. The largest individual amount paid in cash on the new pledges so far is $25.00 My we not hope that it great many more of these pledges will be paid at once, and thus enable the church to use the money and 1e- duce our indebtedness. h is a little strange that those who have not paid all of their old pledges can witness the prompt payment of so many of the new ones and still refuse to make any response to the repeated appeals of. the board. Is it possible that any one does not mend to pay so sacred an obligation '

THE SUNDAY We have offen ey. SCHOOL .. pressed the opinion that there is no organization within the church capable of such lange use- fulness as the Sunday School. This conviction grows stronger each veal. There is nothing so vitally essential to the welfare of the church as knowledge of the Word et Conl, and there is no better way of imputing of receiving that knowledge than is at- founded by the Sunday School. It is to be regretted that so many people think of it as chietly tor childien. The fact is, the distressing ignorance of adult members of the church is- gurding the teaching of the Senptoies Is only excelled by their seeming m-
