MORNING HYMN.

No. 24 in Hymnal.

Welcome, sweet day or. rest, That saw the Lord arise, Welcome to this reviving breast, And those rejoicing eyes.

The King himself comes near And teasts his saints todry ; Here may we sit and see Him here And love, and praise, and pray.

My willing soul would stan In such a plice as this. And sit and sing herselt away lo everlasting bliss.

LOCAL.S.

Sister Hattie Congdon is away on a visit. She is improved in health.

We hope to see more people at Sunday School next Sunday than have been coming.

Let us have a full house both morning and evening next Lord's Day. To that end let every member till his or her own place.

We shall be glad to publish more locals when we are informed of hap- penings. Let us hear from you when you want things mentioned.

We advertise nothing but what we are willing to commend. Our adver- tisers help to make our paper possible. Be sure to remember them when you make purchases.

We must urge the attendance of our own people at the Orchestral to be given next Thursday evening. It will doubtless be one of the very fineyt ever given in the city.

Now the meetings are over let us turn our attention with renewed energy to the work in hand. Many things have been neglected that now, all the more urgently, demand our attention.

The sermons of Lord's Day will be on the following themes: "The Next Thing," Acts 11, 42, and " The Church of Christ Identified." You should hear both of these sermons. They are important.

Our ushers deserve to be compli- mented by their faithtul and efficient work during the meetings. They did very much to make the people feel at home and to care them to will to come Again. Let the work continue.

You will notice the change of the front page of the Announcement. This chart will be lett standing for a time. Do not tail the show it to your friends and ask them to tus it, and act upon it. Many people are almost persuaded. Do not albes them to Jip away.

We urge the attendance of all our members at the regular services, This is essential to you as individuals and to the church as a whole. The moment any one begins to feel inclined to re- matin away from the Lord's house on the Lord's Day, that very moment his christianity begins to decline, and the church looses his support.

MORNING HYMN.

Praise God from whom all blessings tlow.

Praise Him all creatures here below. Praise Him above Ye heavenly hosts Praise Father Son and Holy Ghost.

PERSONALS.

Sister Armel has been sick for a week pasi.

Sister Elizabeth Hollinger is very poorly.

Bro. Boen, who took fellowship with us last Lord's Day evening, was hap- tized over fifty years ago.

Gordon Eveland has gone to his brothers in Michigan to spend the holidays, and recuperate.

Sister McGee will spend the holidays with friends in Ohio where she has already gone.

Bro. Paff suffered quite a severe in- jury to his hand. He will entirely recover.

Sister Childs, of Kendallville, gave us a pleasant visit over Lord's Day. She subscribed tor the Announcement.

Sister Barnes was unable to be at church last Lord's Day. Her class of little folks missed her.

BITS OF TRUTH.

l'o make light of the ordinance of baptism or to deny its righttul plice in the plan of salvation is sacreligions and blasphemous. Let the man, who has no more serious thought of Christ's command than to do either, beware.

For six weeks Mr. Dorris called, in vain, for a standard Greek English lexicon, which gives the primary meaning of baptidzo, other than im- merse, dip, plunge, submerge and the like. Is there one? We will stop preaching immersion, and close this controversy at once it such authority can be found.

We do not wish to continue con- troversy, but we do want the people of this city to know the truth. The evening services during the winter will be evangelistic, and the sermons will be on the first principles of the Gospel. We want all to hear.

There is not a hving man who can read to an honest inquirer, the condi- tions of admission into the kingdom as laid down by Peter in Acts II, 38, and insist on them, without being counted a disturber of the peace of denominationalism. Mr. Moody SaRI publicly in Cincinnati last year that simply reading it without note of comment would break up his meeting.

It is one thing to be a friend to all the denominations, and qinte another to preach the Gospel as plainly taught in the Scriptures. We believe in the unity of all God's people, but we do not believe it will ever come by com- promising the truth. It is outrageous to hear men say that they will be glad to give their opinions about how a man may comply with one of the Lord's plainest commandments. Read Il Tim. IV. 1-4.

COMMUNION HYMN, NO. 315.

While in sweet communion feeding On this earthly bread and wine, Savior may we see the bleeding On the cross to make us Thine.

Though unseen, now be Thou near us;

With the still small voice of love; Whispering words of peace to cheer us, Every doubt and fear remove. Bring before us all the story Of Thy life and death of woe; And with hopes of endless glory, Wean our hearts from all below.

PERSONALS.

Bro. Chas. Yagerlehner is the proud father of a girl baby. Congratula- tions.

Bro. Fried's family have moved to 216 W. Jefferson St. to be nearer the church.

Bro. Howard Shordan, Sister Olive Pulver and Sister Alma Nestle received the right hand of fellowship Lord's dạy.

Bro. Adams and wife have another son: They now have three boys to make life merry for them.

Bro, and Sister Barnes will be away over Sunday.

Sister Thayer bas gone away to be gone over Lord's Day.

Mrs. Rice has been quite sick for several days. She is improving.

Mr. aud Mrs. Hobbs, who made the confession Lord's Day evening, are brother and sister to Mr. and Mrs. Frank Hobbs, so faithful in all our work.

BITS OF TRUTH.

People are very enthusiastic about the Holy Ghost until He begins to speak to them in plain English, and then they call Him "divisive."

When people learn that Jesus nailed the law to the cross, and became the mediator of a better covenant which began on the first Penticost after the resurrection, they will have begun to read aright the Word of God.

Preachers talk about the transtorm- tion of words, as if that would make a difference in the meaning of a word before it was transformed. We do not care what the word baptism means now in our English dictionaries. We want to know what the wond baptidzo meant when Jesus used it. Let us be satisfied with that.

We hear a great deal now-a-days about denominational federation. So far as it goes it would doubtless be a good thing. Much of this, however, is talk. The Y. P. S. C. E. afforded the best plan for federation this wo:ht has known since the first century of Christianity, and a number of the leading denominations have with- drawn from it to form their own so- cieties. Denominationalism dies hard, but Jesus would have none of it.

The annual business meeting of the church will be held on the second Monday evening in January. It promises to be a very interesting meeting. Let all come.

We hope to see you at church to- morrow. We were not a little sor- prised and chagrined la t Ford's bay as we noted the absence of many members who, doubtles, could have been present had they tried.

With the next issue we will begin our Bible studies. The fust one will be " The Bible Properly Divided." Fol- lowing this we will give a number of studies in Acts of Apostles, We hope that they may provoke a large amount of research

The Sunday School, the mid-week prayer meeting and the Endeavor prayer meeting should all be more largely attended. They Are growing, but not as rapidly as they should.

Next Ford's Day closes the fourth year of your present pastor's service with the church. The sermon m the morning will be a summing up of the work accomplished in the four years. Let all the members be present.

A large per cent. of our members are seldom at any of our services. Some of them have fully good ex- cuses; but 1 teat that nhỏ tết thẩm will not stand before the searching gaze of the last ludee. You do your- selves an inju tice by staying away.

IMPORTANT ITEMS.

A happy New Year to all our friends. We regard this as the best issue of the Announcement yet published.

The Bible lesson furnishes suggest- ive matter for wide research. Study it carefully.

Next week the Bible lesson will be a continuation of the one presented this week. They will furnish a good background for the study of Acts.

Except in cases of continued sick- ness, it should be regarded as a sacred duty by every member of the church to be at the communion service as aften as possible. Willful or careless neglect of this privilege, as well as duty, is a great sin-perhaps one of the greatest of omissions. Paul ex- horted the Hebrew brethren not to forsake the assembling of themselves together. "For," said he, "if we sin willfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there re- maineth no more a sacrifice for sins, but a certain fearful expectation of judgment."-Heb. 10:25-26. The el- ders regard it as their duty to look very carefully and prayfully into every case where such absence is at all fre- quent.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT.

Heart religion is all right when it is prompted by a clear understanding of Gospel truth. Otherwise, it may be mere gush, or what is worse, super- stition.

Many heathen have heart religion and are more zealous than many Christians; but they do not know God. "This is lite eternal that they might know," etc .- Jno. 17:8. It wouldn't be a bad idea for some re- ligious enthusiasts to use their brains a little bit.

"With the heart man believeth unto righteousness."-Rom. 10:10. We gladly accept this; but we would have you read on a few verses and observe that man believes upon testimony, which always appeals to the under- standing, or intellect, and it you will read the 16th verse you will see how inseperably beliet and obedience are linked together.

It might be well to observe that the word heart, as often used in the New Testament, has reference to man's whole moral nature, the intellect, the sensibility and the will, and that a change of heart is a change of all. By belief the intellect, or mind, is changed; by repentance the sensibili- ties, or affections, are changed; and in the act of baptism a change of will is indicated, and a change ot state is wrought.

"We are united and hopeful and fairly well organized."

"There have been over 300 addi- tions to the church, or an average of 75 per year, during the past four years. Fully half of our present membership have united since 1 came."

"There is not a single point from which we may justly view a church at which we may not see improve- ment. We are stronger to-day than ever before in our history. Surely we may erect here a stone of memorial and say, 'Hitherto has the Lord help- ed us. ">
