JUBILEE CONVENTION NOTES.

We have been trying to make some arrangements about a special train to Cincinnati at the time of the Jubilee Convention in October. As yet we have not succeeded in making any satisfactory arrangements but we have some encouraging prospects.

We hope that many of our people are planning to attend the great gath- ering. It will doubtless be one of the greatest religious gatherings of the century, surely the greatest of any single body un believers. Every text- ture will be attractive and inspiring.

Everywhere we go we hear people saying. "We'll meet at Cincinnati in October," or "I'll see you at the Jubilee Convenion." We shall not be surprised if the attendance exceeds the 10,000 at first anticipated. Every body seems to be making preparations to attend. We shall call a meeting soun ut those who intend going from our church.

HINTS WORTH HEEDING.

The days of rest are past, the days of service are at hand

From observations already made, the pastor is not the only one who has taken a vacation.

The Christian Endeavor Societies have been quite active all summer but there remains much to be done. How about doing it?

The C. W. B. M. changes not with the seasons. In summer and in winter these faithful women are at work, en- deavoring to advance the interests of the Redeemer's Kingdom. But there are so few of them.

We have heard from the C Es. the Sunday School, and the Juniors, but everybody has maintained a perfect silence regarding the Aid Society. If the thing is alive we would like to

hear from it, it can't be dead or we would have heard of the funeral. May be it is dead and don't know it. or alive and can't speak to want of voice. Which is it? Who will ie- port its condition? We had a fear that its health was pour even dunng Mary and June.

Through sickness and removals and summer outings om Sunday School has been unusually weakened. But there .tre a great number who would'nt know it it they were not told about it. Are you in the least concerned about yan part in this great work.

Beloved, let us awake and mise for there is work to be done, and it will not bear delay. Our appeal is to all. The young and the old, the women and the men. We have no reason to be discouraged. The future is bright before us. Our activities have ceased for a time perhaps, but this is only that we may lay hold with greater timness upon the problems that confront us. The summer has been ill spent if it has not furnished us with more jeal and enthusiasm for service, Let us therefore apply our- selves vigorously to that which needs omt attention and let not another day pass until we have resolved upon vame form of service for Christ.

Sister Addie Flickinger has been very low for the past two weeks. Om sympathy goes out to her, he- cause of the long continuance and frequent severity of her sufferings.

ROUND The meeting Wedne day TABLE. evening was quite well at- tended, and was, we believe, protitable in every way. The various societies reported plans for the autumn cam- paign and quite a number valuable suggestions were made. Bro. Hol- verstott emphasized the fact that the success of the wink depends upon us all. Bro. Eversole suggested that the members each one become a member of some one of the various organiza- tions, and thus become identified in some close way with the work of the church. Bro. Woodhull urged the importance of hearts hand shaking. Bro. Sweinhart spoke of the necessity of more singing books so that all c.in join in the singing. Prof. Harshman emphasized this with some well chosen remarks. Sister Eriyle spoke of the interest which responsive read- ing creates. Sister Ladd suggested that as soon as possible we irv to have an after meeting at the close of the Sunday evening service and this was heartily endoised by all. Bio. Eversole also suggested that we have

a similar meeting to the one Wednes. day evening at least as olien as once a month, and this seemed to meet with unievsual approval. On the whole we counted the meeting emi- Dently practical and beneficial. The pastor urged the importance of indiv- idual piety and devotion. He sind, "Om work will be successful in pro- portion to om individual consecration of ourselves to Chirst. Every service which does not rue from a sense of love for Good will in the end prove of little value Ie ure therelote em- phasize the devational side of our church hte."

We shall print the names of all who have paid anaval dues in the last issue of the present month.

Once in a time I spoke a word That was bitter of meaning and hirsh Of tolle,

And it went as straight as a poisoned dart

Forevermore by that wind alone. Never that word could be unsaid That lost me a friendship old and true

Never that sheet might be undone That broke the trust of an erring one -- Never untold the tale that sped To blight and bathe a lifetime through.

HINTS WORTH HEEDING.

Wednesday evening is prayer meet- ing night.

Unworthy church members are a greater hinderance to the cause of Christ than are saloons.

There are about twelve hours each day in the six for us to use in libor and trade, yet some people never find fime to attend prayer meeting one hour a week.

If there was fifty cents apiece in it for every one who attended prayer meeting we would have to hold the meetings in the Rink and employ police force to take care of the crowds who would be unable to gain entrance.

As it is, peace and joy and maybe eternity is in it for all who attend, and yet the slightest and most trivial excuses are offered by those who do not attend. There is such a thing as holding a fifty-cent piece so close to the eye as to shut out the light ut heaven.

There are people who would be

mortally offended if their names should happen to be left out of a pub lished list of the members of a church. But when bills are to be paid they would not see their own names in the list if they were printed in red ink, and with capital letters. It is sur- prising how ones eye sight fails at time.

Children's Rally Day for Amer- ica will be observed the Sunday before Thanksgiving. It is not too early to begin to get ready.

C. C. SMITH'S The visit of Bro. VISIT. C. C. Smith to our church last Sunday was not known in time to make full announcement of it in our paper, but he was greeted with a good audience just the same and his presence gave us cheer and courage. His address heightened our interest m the great work of American Missions and a worthy offering was made by our people in a very free way. We believe in the educational value of such decisions and believe that in most cases this is the feature of chief importance. It is not unimportant that large offerings should be taken by the secret, mes, but we feel that when at church once comes to feel the big- ness of its field it will os to get mig enough to occupy it, and will reach out with its means to the uttermost parts ut the earth, not with spasmodic clawings but with steady purpose. The hearts of our people are wann now, toward the cause of American Missions and we want them ever to remain so.

A WORTHY It is a pleasure al- SERVICE. ways to express grati- tude for service cheertully and taith- tully rendered, The occasion for this remark is the departureof Sister El. Smith tor a season. Her place in th. church is a most important one and for several years pas she has tilled it with a taithtulne buch excelled and with ever increasing acceptabibts to the congregation. We part with her very reluctantly even though it by but tor a time, vet weare glad tofce! that it is in view of langer opportuni- ties for voice cultivation that she goes from us and we feel sure that he v.r. tind the Tram hte both nterestin. and helpful.
