For Coughs, Catarrh, Consumption.

The United States Health Reports, January 5. 1.

" After a careful investigation into the cause of the great decrease in the death rate trom Catarrh and Consumption during the past year, we find that this reduction was brought about by the use of the new germicide HYOMEI. Such evidence should prove to all suf- ferers that in HYOMEI alone is their only hope of successfully treating these diseases. Besides this, it is guaranteed and your money refunded if it fails. An Exception to Law of Nature. A civil engineer who is in Alaska nas written home to Chicago that the rails on the Chilkoot Pass rail- way expund with the cold, in stead of contracting as they would he supposed to do. A temperature ranging from 12 to 40 degrees below zero Fahrenheit would not appre- clably affect the length of rails, but severer cold than that would be at- tended with expansion. This is cer- tainly an exception to a law of na- ture, although water shrinks as it cools until 39 degrees Fahrenheit is reached, when it begins to expand .- Chicago Chronicle.

The mails in central Africa are still conveyed for the most part upon the heads and backs of native postmen. Tbe men are recruited chiefly from the Yao and Atonga tribes, and wear a uniform. Fully 300 bags of mail are made up each month at the different post offices in the protectorate for conveyance by these men, the total distance traversed being close upon 10,- two miles a month, the cost of transit being less than half a penny a mile a bag .- N. Electricity Killing Finh. Many thousands of fish are being found dead in the lakes contiguous to Fergus Falls, Minn., chiefly in Otter Tall lake, from which the city named gets its water supply through the Red river. This is a serious feature of the situation. General belief has it tha: severe electrical disturbances have killed the fish .- Chicago Chronicle.
