GOVERNOR TAYLAK Is still holding out in Kentucky, though affairs are gradual- ly quieting down, and most likely the dispute will be settled hy the courts, as it should have been done originally. Whatever may have been the evil plane of Goebel, the great mistake was that Taylor ever allowed the armed monn- taineers to take possession of Frankfort. as their very presence there was a men- ace to law and mder. ALL lovers uf honest base hall trust that the plans nf the new Americau aseo- ciation will nut an astray. With the syndicate ball of the past year, the horullumism permitted, the unjust re- serve rule for the players, the the ruhuer back boue of the maguates in standing by the umpires, and the incompetency of many of the latter. all lead honest lovers of the sport to turn to the new associa tion with high hopes. We fail In see where the maguates, one aud all, have anything to ask of the newspaperk fur support, as they get more free advertis- 10g for less return than any business concern can possibly get. RAPE AS GREEN FOOD.
Every Farmer Who Ralsee Chlekens Should Try a Small Palch Without Delay.
Rape is an excellent green food for chickens and fills a long felt want of poultrymen. It can be sown in early spring or any time later up to the mid- dle of August, and furnish an abund- ance of food, writes C. R. Roberts in the American Poultry Journal. Last year I sowed a small patch just to see what kind of a plant it was. It grows from 15 to 20 Inches in height. The leaves in color and shape resemble the cab- bage leaf very much. It can be sown broadcast, or in drills 30 inches apart, and he cultivated. The ground should be prepared the same as for turnips, and the seed covered about the same as turnip seed. It grows very fast, and can be cut and fed to chickens or let them go to it at will and help them- selves. When they are to eat in this way I should prefer to have it sown in drills, as they can wa'k between the rows, and are not so aut to trample and break it down as is the case when sown broadcast; but when it is to be ent and fed it is just as good to sow it broad- cast as any. Last year my young chick- ens commenced to eat my cabbages, but when the rape was up four or five inches high they left the cabbage and commenced on the rape, and any one knows that when chickens leave a cab- bage patch to eat something else it must be something they like better than cabbages. I had never had chick- ens do better and grow faster than they did while they were helping themselves to rape. I think that every one wbo raises chickens should try a small patch. It will cost but a few cents to give this plant a trial, as five pounds is enough to sow an acre broadcast, and one to two pounds if sown in drills. I have no rape secd to sell.

LOOK FOR LOOSE SPOKES.
Onr Fenture of The Bleyele That Needs the Most Careful Looking Aitee In the spelng.
In the spring it is often found that there are loose spokes in the wheels and that they are out of trur. Examination of them should therefore not be forgot- ten. To tighten spokes and properly true up a wheel is a neat joh und one that is best to leave to o repair man unless the rider is experienced or hath- rally apt a: mechanical work. With tires there is little to do exerpt inflate them and see if they are all right 1f defective because of having been left flut. have them repaired or get new ones. It is a gonil idea. however, to turn the whrel slow'y and investigate whether the tire is tira on the rim, for if the er- nent has weakened the tire may "crerl" and cut the valve stem off the first time the wheel goes out. Most riders who do not krep their wheels in commission from fall to spring find that the tires do not hold air so well when brought out of the garret. In a majority of cases this is because there is tronhte ut the valve stem. Often the valvr will be found leaky because of the plunger In it being clogged by dust, though often the pump will force the dust nway . When it is tightly lodged n drop of water usually does the trick. Oil never should be used. In lubricating the bi- oyele after overhauling It the pedals should not be forgotten, although they usually are. The hrad bearings should also be remembered, else the rider will liud 1: nself a member of the "squeaky squad." w honre in evidence everywhere on the runds in spring. The smic rand sade, post are usually overlooked. If the saudi has springs and is rusty or dirty t may become the seat of il squeak that wil pester the rider for days to Den'e After giving a whril an over- 1. qu ing too much care cannot be taken to see that every part is properly re- pinced and set up right. It is briter to make certain by a triple survey than to meet with accident because of an over- sight.
