The meeting was opened at 6:00 A.M. by the Moderator and after reading the warrant the polls were declared open. The Ballot Box had been examined and found in good working order, instruction to voters posted and specimen ballots dis- played at the entrance and within the voting place. The fol- lowing persons were sworn in and assigned to their duties: Laura Atherton and Margaret Kennedy distributing ballots, Helen Kennedy, Beatrice Bangs, William Owens and Edward Sweeney as tellers, and Abbie Sheahan and Frank Kennedy checking at the Ballot Box. Coleman J. Hogan was in charge of the Ballot Box.
The polls were closed at 2:00 P.M.

in anticipation of the revenue of the financial year beginning January 1, 1948, and to issue a note or notes therefor, payable within one year, and to renew any note or notes as may be given for a period of less than one year in accordance with Chapter 44, Section 17, General Laws.
Article 7. Voted that the taxes shall be paid in two equal payments, July 1, 1948 and October 1, 1948 and the Collector shall receive 1% of the 1948 taxes.
Article 8. Voted that the Members of the Fire Depart- ment be paid $20.75 per year and $1.00 per hour while working at fires.
Article 9. Voted to authorize the Collector to use all means in the collection of taxes as the Treasurer might if elected to that office.
Article 10. Voted to authorize the Board of Selectmen to appoint one of its members as Clerk of the Highway De- partment.
Article 11. Voted that the Clerk of the Highway Depart- ment shall receive $25.00 per week as compensation.
Article 12. Voted to raise and appropriate the sum of $700.00 for the improvement of Chapter 90 Roads providing the State and County allot like amounts for this purpose.
Article 13. Voted unanimously that the sum of $9,000.00 be raised and appropriated for the purchase of a new truck and plow for the Highway Department. To meet such appro- priation the Treasurer with the approval of the Selectmen be and hereby is authorized to borrow in accordance with Chap- ter 44, General Laws the sum of $8,000.00 and to issue bonds or notes of the Town therefor. Such bonds or notes to be paid in not more than five years from date of issue of the first bond or note or at such earlier time as the Treasurer and the Selectmen may determine. The balance of $1,000.00 to be paid out of the current taxes of the present year.
Article 14. Voted to transfer the sum of $3,600.00 from the Road Machinery Fund to the Highway Operating Account to defray the expenses of the operation and maintenance of Highway Machinery.
Article 15. Voted that this article be dismissed wherein the construction of an asphalt sidewalk on the west side of the road connecting Mitchell and Cottage Streets was petitioned.
Article 16. Voted that this article be dismissed wherein the construction of an asphalt sidewalk on the north side of West Main Street from the tracks of the N. Y., N. H. & H.

Article 18. Voted that a committee of five authorized to spend money appropriated under Article 4 for the observance of Memorial Day be appointed by the American Legion.
Article 19. Voted to accept the report of the committee appointed under Article 48 of the Annual Town Meeting of 1947 for the purpose of arranging a new contract with the Department of Mental Health for the purchase of water.
Article 20. Voted to have the committee appointed under Article 36 of the Annual Town Meeting of 1947, which was to look into the advisability of installing about 11,600 feet of 8 inch and 6 inch water mains from the corner of South Street and High Street southeast on High Street to the Walpole line and on parts of Granite Street and Plain Street, extend its work and report its findings at a future town meeting.
Article 21. Voted to accept the report of the Committee appointed under Article 27 of the Annual Town Meeting of 1947 for the study of a suitable location for a new Fire Station and have the Committee continue its work and report at a future town meeting.
Article 22. Voted to accept the report of the Committee appointed under Article 20 of the Annual Town Meeting of 1946 "to present plans and recommendations for an appropriate War Memorial for World War II Veterans."
Article 23. Voted to accept the report of the Committee appointed under Article 27 of the Annual Town Meeting of 1946 "to inquire into the advisability of selecting and procuring a suitable location for new permanent Honor Rolls for Civil War, Spanish War, World War I and World War 11 Veterans."
Article 24. Voted that the report of the committee ap- pointed under Article 33 of the Annual Town Meeting of 1946 to make arrangements for the erection of a permanent Honor Roll at Baxter Park be accepted and the committee dismissed.
Article 25. Voted to raise and appropriate the sum of $150.00 to defray the expense of sending out postal cards notifying the voters of Registration Dates and Special Town Meetings.
