Article 6. To see if the Town will vote to authorize the Treasurer with the approval of the selectmen to borrow money from time to time in anticipation of the revenue of the financial year beginning January 1, 1949, and to issue a note or notes therefor, payable within one year, and to renew any note or notes as may be given for a period of less than one year in accordance with Chapter 44, Section 17, General Laws.


Article 7. To determine in what manner the taxes shall be collected for the ensuing year; also determine what per- centage shall be allowed the Collector for the ensuing year.


Article 8. To see if the Town will authorize the Collector to use all means in the collection of taxes as the Treasurer might if elected to that office.

Article 9. To see if the Town will vote to authorize the Selectmen to appoint one of its members as Clerk of the High- way Department or do or act anything in relation thereto.


Article 10. To see what compensation the Town will allow the Clerk of the Highway Department for the ensuing year.


Article 11. To see if the Town will vote to raise and appropriate a sum of money for the improvement of Chapter 90 Roads, said money to be used in conjunction with any money allotted by the State or County or both for this purpose, or do or act anything in relation thereto.


Article 12. To see if the Town will vote to transfer a sum of money from the Road Machinery Fund to the Highway Operating Account to defray the expenses of the operation and maintenance of Highway Machinery.


Article 13. To see if the Town will vote to raise and appropriate a sum of money to construct an asphalt sidewalk on the west side of the road connecting Mitchell and Cottage Streets, or do or act anything in relation thereto.


Article 14. To see if the Town will vote to raise and ap- propriate a sum of money to construct an asphalt sidewalk on the north side of West Main Street from the tracks on the N.Y.N.H. & H. R.R. Co. to the stone bound located on the property of William and Violet Blake or do or act any- thing in relation thereto.


Article 15. To see if the Town will vote to raise and appropriate a sum of money for the purpose of painting the exterior woodwork of the Town House, or do or act anything in relation thereto.


Article 16. To see if the Town will vote to raise and appropriate a sum of money for the purpose of rebuilding the bridge over "Stop River" on Noon Hill Street, or do or act anything in relation thereto.


Article 17. To see if the Town will vote to appoint a committee of five and authorize it to make arrangements to spend money appropriated under Article IV for the observance of Memorial Day.


Article 18. To hear and act on the report of the Com- mittee appointed under Article 20 of the Annual Town Meeting of 1946 "to present plans and recommendations at a future Town Meeting for an appropriate War Memorial for World War II Veterans."

Article 21. To see if the Town will vote to raise and appropriate a sum of money to defray expenses of sending out postal cards notifying the voters of Special Town Meetings, or do or act anything in relation thereto.


Article 22. To see if the Town will vote to raise and appropriate a sum of money for the systematic collection and removal of garbage, or do or act anything in relation thereto.


Article 23. To hear and act on the report of the Com mittee appointed under Article 40 of the Annual Town Meet- ing of 1946, or do or act anything in relation thereto.

Article 46. To see if the Town will vote to raise and appropriate a sum of money for the purchase of a new fire truck to replace the 1933 truck, or do or act anything in rela- tion thereto. (Fire Engineers).


Article 47. To see if the Town will vote to accept a lot of land to be donated for the purpose of erecting a new elemen- tary school, or for other civic purposes on the lot described

as follows: bounded by Adams Street, Dale and North Streets. (School Committee).


Article 48. To hear and act on the report of the School Building Committee (appointed by the Town on June 21 and November 15, 1948) and the School Committee to expend money to employ a reputable firm of architects to enable the Town to construct a new grade school on the property mentioned in the foregoing article. To consider and act upon the question of constructing, equipping and furnishing the new grade school; to consider and act upon the raising and appropriation of money for any of the foregoing; to consider and act upon the question of borrowing money and issuing bonds or notes for any of the foregoing; to consider and act upon the question of continuing said School Building Committee and School Com- mittee as a building committee for said new grade school; and to take any action in connection with the foregoing. Article 49. To see if the Town will vote to raise and appropriate a sum of money to provide post quarters for the Beckwith Post No. 110 American Legion as provided under the General Laws. Chapter 40, Section 9, and amendments thereto.


And you are directed to serve this warrant by posting an attested copy thereof, in the usual place for posting warrants in said Medfield, seven days at least before the time of holding said meeting.

ANNUAL TOWN MEETING FOR THE ELECTION OF OFFICERS March 7, 1949


Pursuant to the foregoing warrant the meeting was opened at 6:30 A. M. by the Moderator and after reading the war- rant the polls were declared open. The ballot box had been examined and found in good working order, instruction to voters posted and specimen ballots displayed at the entrance and within the polling place. The following persons were sworn in and assigned to their duties: Mary Hardie and Alice Ripley distributing ballots, Frank D. Kennedy, Barbara Lovely, Cora Beaton, Anita Ofria, Edward Sweeney, Margaret Kennedy, Beatrice Bangs and Winifred Greene as tellers, Helen Kennedy and Abbie Sheahan checking at the ballot box, and Coleman J. Hogan in charge of the ballot box.


The Polls were closed at 2:00 P. M.


The ballots were counted in open meeting and after tabu- lation the results announced as follows:

Article 11. Voted to raise and appropriate the sum of $700.00 for the improvement of Chapter 90 Roads, providing the State and County or both allot like amounts for this purpose.

Article 13. Voted that this article be dismissed wherein the construction of an asphalt sidewalk on the west side of the road connecting Mitchell and Cottage Streets was petitioned.


Article 14. Voted that this article be dismissed wherein the construction of an asphalt sidewalk on the north side of West Main Street from the tracks of the N.Y.N.H. & H. R.R. Co. to the stone bound located on the property of William & Violet Blake was petitioned.


Article 15. Voted that the sum of $1,000.00 be raised and appropriated for the purpose of painting the exterior wood- work of the Town House.

Article 16. Voted that the sum of $2,000.00 be raised and appropriated for the purpose of rebuilding the bridge over "Stop River" on Noon Hill Street.


Article 17. Voted that the following committee of five be authorized to make arrangements to spend money appro- priated under Article 4 for the Observance of Memorial Day:


John McMahon, William E. McCarthy, Douglas Werner, Dorothea McMahon and Vilja Lynch.


Article 18. Voted to accept the report of the Committee appointed under Article 20 of the Annual Town Meeting of 1946 "to present plans and recommendations for an appropriate War Memorial for World War II Veterans. Said committee is. hereby discharged.


Article 19. Voted to accept the report of the Committee appointed under Article 27 of the Annual Town Meeting of 1946 "to inquire into the advisability of selecting and procuring a suitable location for new permanent Honor Rolls for Civil War, Spanish War, World War I, and World War II Veterans." Said committee is hereby discharged.


Article 20. Voted to accept the report of the committee appointed under Article 33 of the Annual Town Meeting of 1946 empowered to act on making arrangements for the erection of a permanent Honor Roll to be located at Baxter Park in honor of World War II Veterans. Said committee is hereby discharged.
