ROCHESTER.
An incorporated village in the town- ship of Avon, Oakland county, 25 miles north of Detroit, air line distance, but 31 miles via the Bay City division of the M. C. R. R., and i0 miles east of Pontiac. It is situated at the junction of Paint and Stony creeks with Clinton river, and has fine water power advantages. At this point the C. & St. C. Air line intersects the Bay City divi- sion of the M. C. R. R. The village contains 2 woolen, 2 paper and 4 grist mills, also 5 churches, Adventist, Baptist, Congregational, Methodist and Universalist. It is in a good rolling agricultural country, the products raised being mainly grain and fruit. The shipments from this place are of paper, woolen goods and agricultural products. A small postoffice in Charlevoix county.
ROCK FALLS.
A small village on the shore of lake Huron in Sand Beach township, Huron county. It is at the mouth of Allen's creek, 212 miles south of Sand Beach and 20 due east of Bad Axe, the county seat. Lumber and shingles are the chief articles of manufacture. Rock Falls is reached by stage from Port Huron, from which it is north 62 miles.
ROCKFORD.
A thriving incorporated village on the G. R. & I. R. R., 13 miles north of Grand Rapids, It is in Algoma township, Kent county, on Rouge river, from which water power is derived. Population about 1,000. It contains a foundry and machine shop, 2 flouring mills, I saw mill, shingle mills, sash and blind factory, etc. Rockford supports a respectable weekly newspaper, The Reg- ister, and has 3 churches, Baptist, Congrega- tional and Methodist, a Union school build- ing costing $25,000, I bank and 2 hotels. ROCKLAND.
A mining village of about 1,000 inhabi- tants in Rockland township, Ontonagon county, 12 miles southeast of Ontonagon village, and 35 west of L'Anse, its nearest railroad point. It is within the limits of the so-called mineral range, and is the location of several copper mines, including the once famous Minnesota mine. The product of these mines for IS75 was as follows :

The village was settled in IS14. It con- tains 2 churches-Catholic and Methodist-a hotel, a brewery, and several stores and shops. ROCKWOOD.
This village is situated on both sides of the Huron river, which here forms the divid- ing line between the counties of Wayne and Monroe. The chief part of the village, however, is in Brownsville township, Wayne county. It is 7 miles above the mouth of the river, and has railroad communication by the L. S. & M. S. and the C. & C. S. lines. It is 25 miles south of Detroit, and 40 north of Toledo. The only, manufactur. ing enterprises are a sawmill and a stave factory. Staves, wood and grain are the principal shipments. A station on the Otter Lake branch of the F. & P. M. Ry., between Genesee and Otis. ville. Rogersville is its postoffice.
ROGERS CITY,
The judicial seat of the county of Presque Isle is an incorporated village of between 500 and 600 inhabitants, chiefly Germans, settled in 1869, and situated on the shore of lake Huron at the mouth of Trout river. It is 4S miles northwest of Alpena, and 58 south - east of Cheboygan. Lumber, flour, shin- gles, lath, lime and castings are manufac- tured. There are 2 Lutheran churches, a good Union school, 2 hotels and several stores. The Lake Shore Stage Line passes through the village north and south weekly, carrying mails. Express, McClure's. Tele- graph, Western Union. Among the recent improvements are a new court house erected at a cost of $15,000, a large hotel, and sev- eral substantial dwellings. Mail twice a week. Frederick D. A village having 250 inhabitants, in Rollin township, Lenawee county, 16 miles west of Adrian, the county seat, and 5 north of Hudson, its railroad point. ROMEO.
The principal town in Macomb county, is situated on the Michigan Air Line railway, Io miles northeast of Rochester, 14 west of Ridgeway, and 40 north of Detroit. It is on the line between Bruce and Washington townships, in the northern part of the county, 20 miles from Mt. Clemens, the county seat. It claims a population of 3.000, and is located in a splendid farming region. Romeo has become well known to the sport- ing world through its annual and well- attended horse fairs, having here one of the very best half-mile tracks in the State, The public buildings consist of a Central Union and two primary school buildings (all of wood), and Methodist, Christian, Congrega- tional, Episcopal, Baptist, and Lutheran churches. The Methodist church is one of the finest in the interior of the State, having cost some $40.000. The Romeo Observer is the only paper published here. The manufacturing interests include ( in and close around the village) 5 flouring mills, 4 car- riage factories, a planing mill, 3 foundries, a machine shop, and an agricultural implement factory. There are also 2 National banks. The leading shipments from Romeo consist of flour, grain, apples, carriages, potatoes, etc. The village was platted in 1824, in- corporated in 1838, and secured an outlet by railroad in 1870. The postoffice at a small place better known in the vicinity as Pullen's Corners. It has about 100 inhabitants and is located in the township of Romulus, Wayne county, 23 miles southwest of Detroit.
