A village of 200 souls in Eaton county, Kalamo township, 10 miles west of Char- lotte, the county seat. Vermontville, on the G. R. division of the M. C. R. R., is the shipping point. KALKASKA. .


A beautiful little village of about 400 population, is the county seat of Kalkaska county. It is situated on the North Board- man river and on the G, R, & I. R. R., 24 miles east of Traverse City, 54 south of Petoskey, and 137 north of Grand Rapids. The surrounding country consists of high, level lands, unexcelled for farming purposes, and is rapidly being improved. Kalkaska has , a saw mill, a planing mill, a foundry, a sub- stantial new court house and jail, a good school house, several stores, and a first-class hotel -- the Kalkaska House. A newspaper --- The Kalkaskian -- is published. Hard- wood lumber, grain, hay and potatoes are shipped. Fish and game abound in the vicinity. Express, United States. Tele- graph, Western Union. A small village, also known as Maple City, in Kasson township, Leelanaw county. It is 12 miles south of Glen Arbor, IS west of Traverse City and 40 south of North- port, the county seat.
