'Aged Negro Dies; Was Former Slave On Tobacco Farm
. . Jack Vandiver, aged negro servant. died this morning at the home of his employer. J. T. Andres of 994 Cherry street lle suffered a paralytic stroke at 9 a. m. while working. In the kitchen of the Andres home. Deatlı occurred soon afterward. He was credited with being nearly 90 years old.
' "Uncle Jack," as he was known 10 the Andres family, had been em- ployed in the Andres home for the past 18 years, coming bere from 8t. Louis, where he had been cinployed as a cook by several hotels.
During the period of slavery. "Un- cle Jack" was the property of two different owners. . He was born In Danville, Ky., on the plantation of a wealthy to: acc. grower. being sold to a resident of St. Louis at the age of 20.

"Investigations indicate that Mr. Hat. wood drove bls car into the side of the train's locomotive and death is said to have been practically instantaneous.
"He was born in Bennington, Vermont, in 1839, and lived for many years in the cast before moving to California.
