The Wastebasket Into which are often tossed things well worth while,
Benton Wilson is said to be the richest man in Dade county. His home is In Greenfield and it is said he is worth a million. He is a self made man and had a bitter struggle against poverty in his younger days. Ho once told a Springfield friend that for months at a time he ate nothing but beans and fat pork. He had a small farm in Dade county which he cultivated with two mules but seeing he could not get ahead he sold what little he had and drove . through to Oklahoma where he bought 40 acres. The land was poor but Mr. Wilson and. his faithful mules worked hard and managed to get enough to eat. Prospectors came along and wanted to drill for oll on the farm. A deal was made and oll was found when oll was high and meant money on a large scale. The deal he made put him Into the class of rich men and he returned to Dade county with his pais, the mules, which had done so much for him in his dark days. He has the mules now. They are well housed and well fed but they don't work. They have also retired and will be in a land of oats and hay as long as they live.
