Later Mr. Otterson decided he did not want to be a soldier and an uncle, who was a director of the Frisco, sept him to Springfield and placed him with the road. He soon became a passenger conductor and worked for many years when Dan H. Nich- ols was general superintendent. This was about 50 years ago. When he retired from the Frisco be re- mained in Springfield until his mother became quite old and he returned to Brooklyn where he re- sided until her death several years ago. Then he came back west and remained until his death. He was a man of noble impulses, honest and sincere in this opinions and his friendships and his loss is one which will be felt by a large cir- cle of friends here and in New York.
