Springfield voted down a hand Issue of $100,000 for a municipally owned electric light plant in January, 1894. propie evidently being afraid of a money shortage. Condi- tions throughout the country were still in a bad condition. The charity board of Springfield wan bankrupt and the . town was having a hard time collecting taxes and paying Its debta. An election was held for the voting of bnode for a new courthouse, but was defeated in the county by 8720 to 3290. March 27. 1894. Mrs. T. H. Vanevery. 33. of MinDe- apollo, was killed yesterday afternoon when the automobile in which she and her husband and Mr. and Mrs IL M Abbey. of Minneapolis, were riding. overturned near Lamar. The car was beaded north oo U. 8. high- WAY 71.
The car. which Mr. Vanevery wa. striving homeward from the winter resorts of the south, overturned when it struck a stretch of road meue rough by the recent rains, and crashed Into a ditch. Although no witnesses to the accident could be found, Indications were that the ma- chine was being driven at high speed.
