The Waste Basket Wahl Are Often . Tomed fordys Well
Arthur D. Mobole, Who died in Birmingham the other day, was a young man with a bright tatar? He was a member of a Springfield family that made history in the early days of the city. His father, Danton . H. Nichols, was one of the first general officers of the Frisco railroad and for a long time was a general superintendent with offices bere and later in Bt. Louis. The Frisco has no general super- Intendent now, the organization being conduct- od by a different mathod. H. H. Brown was the last general superintendent of the road. It was considered a hard place and required much traveling. Some years before his death- Andrew O'Hara, long division superintendent in Springfield, was appointed general superin- tendent of the Frisco by Carl R. Gray, then general manager. The appointment came as a varprise to Mr. O'Hara'as he was not expecting it. He was well satisfied where he was. A delegation of Springfield business men re- quested the appointment and it was made. Mr. O'Hara .served two months and requested he be reduced ton Aivision superintendent. This was done. he did not like the long trips on the road, and as he was a man of means, could afford to be particular. There was a long gap between Q'Hara and Nichols, however, Nichols having retired from the Frisco in the early 90's. After Nichols retired from the Frisco he became general superintendent of the New 'York and New England roads and still later was in charge of a refiroad" lu Louisiana.
Mrs. Rebecca Wells Deardorff, who died here a few days ago, was also of an old family. The West Plaina Quiil In referring to her says: "During the Civil war West Plains was en. tirely deserted and its homes destroyed by pil- laging armies. When the war was over and the former realdente of Howell county began slowly to drift back, the deceased and her hus. band came back to West Plains, abe being the first woman to come back to the deserted vll- lage. She and her husband opened a little store."
