This picture of the old Berry home. which stood on Sherman street near Brower avenue, shows tho the famous residence of early Spring- flold a few years before it was dismantled. The homo was built by pioneer Springfieldians and was one of the most magnificent rest- dences of the community. D In the organization of the county It had been dirorted that an election be held for the choosing of officials for certain offices. This had been done and Jeremiah N. Sloan. James Dolflaun and Samuel Martin had been elected the first justices of the county reichs P&Campbell marielected Greene county' first clerk and John'n. Shannon was the first aber !!!. The first reaction of Greene county court was held at the realdence of John P. Camp- holl,.March,-11:14,'1883. .


2 The court wasted bo time lo getting to work. Most Important of Its decisione was in derlite the road from Springfield, Mis- court to Fayetteville. Arkansas. a public road. at least that much of which was to Greene county. The med bylog in poor condi- tion and the court directed that work be done on it up to the Azkansas state Line. This session also ordered several other ry ds bulls. 1.

MRS. BESSIE A. BENNETT : Yuperal services for Mra. Breste A. Ben- nett, 45, wife of W. 1. Bennett, Elwood. Mo., will be held at 2 o'clock Friday after- noon 'in the Center Orove Episcopal church, viruit mttes west of-Springfield-on U. B. Highway 66. Burial will take place In Clear Creek cemetery In charge of Btarne's mortuary. Besides her husband. Mrs. Bennett is survived by a daugle: Ada Belle and a son Leslle both at home; and by her father, J. L. Cook of Spring- field. Three sisters and three brothers also survive.
