Land Office, etc., and is the county seat of Logan county. Its location is high, dry and healthful. Situated on an elevation above the Cottonwood River valley 2% miles from: tbe continence of the river with the Cimarron. The city's

commanding position not only gives it beauty as far as its attractive surroundings are concerned, but one that is capable of fine drainage, and is an ideal spot for the larger city it is destined to become. In point of com- mercial importance it will easily rank first in Oklahoma. Its railroad facili- ties completed and in course of con- struction, and with other lines contem- plated, and self interest will compel them to connect here, thus making this the greatest railroad center in the southwest, assuring the construction of railway machine shops, giving employ- ment to large forces of mechanics. It is the division point for the A., T. & S. F., C., O. & W .. Ft. Smith & !!.. M., K. & T., D., E. & G., Eastern Ok- lahoma and the Rock Island system, giving this city close communication with all points north, south, east and west. This is a wholesale point for a large territory and a shipping point through which the large surplus of wheat, corn, produce. fruits, cattle. hogs, flour, broom corn, cotton and cotton-seed oil products are distributed to other markets. Its jobbing interests are extensive in many lines, including groceries, produce,

hardware, dry goods. millinery and general merchan- dise, and among its manufacturing in- terests are extensive cotton seed oil mills, cotton gins, four mills, brick plants, an ice plant, a creamery, plan- ing mills, foundry and machine shops and carriage factories. . A system of water works owned by the city and an electric light and power plant.

The press is ably represented by 10 weekly and 2 daily papers. The Okla- homa State Capital (morning), and The Daily Leader (evening). There are 5 barks with a combined capital and surplus of over $200,000, and with total deposits exceeding $2,500,000. The city is substantially built with brick and stone office buildings and business houses: has a new city hall, erected at a cost of $75,000. the Carnegie Publie Library, the finest library building in the southwest. costing over $25,000. and an opera house that is the largest and best appointed this side of Kan- sas City.
