Population. 4,500. The judicial seat of Noble county, is located on the A .. T. & S. Fe Ry, 30 miles north of Guth- rie, and 339 from Kansas City. It was occupied as a government townsite on the 16th day of September, 1893, and has ever since enjoyed a large and steadily increasing wholesale and re- tail trade. Is on the line of the Ar- kansas Valley & Western Ry survey connecting Pawnee and Sapuipa, i. T., on the east and Enid and the the Rock Island on the West. It is lighted by electricity. has a splendid system of water works, a paid fire department, telephone exchange. 10 churches, an excellent public school system, with 14 teachers, and an average attendance of over 1000 pupils, a public library, an opera house and S hotels, among which the Merchants' Hotel is the recognized commercial headquaters of the travel- ling public. There are 3 banks, 3 daily and 5 weekly newspapers, 4 grain elevators, the Perry Mill Co., with a daily capacity of 300 barrels of flour, planing mill. ice plant, brick and tile works, cotton gins and carriage and wagon works. The United States Land office is located here. The shipments embrace cotton, cotton seed. wheat, corn. oats, broom corn. flour, horses. imles, hogs. cattle and produce.
