COALGATE.


Population. 4.500. An incorporated city located at the terminus of the Le- high branch of the M., K. & T. Ry. and on the C. O. & G. Ry., in the Choc- taw Nation. 14 miles northwest of Atoka, 5 miles north of Lehigh and 90 miles south of Ardmore. It is an im- portant coal mining town. There are several large brick business blocks in course of construction. Has 2 banks, flour mill, grist mill and cotton gins, two weekly newspapers-the Courier and Independent-Methodist.
