Payne county. 11 miles southeast of Stillwater. the county seat, and 40 from Guthrie. It was opened at a townsite. April. 1900. and enjoys an extensive trade with the surrounding country, which is thickly settled. Has 2 banks, 3 cotton gins, a graded public school occupying a handsome two-story stone building. 3 hotels, fire department, and a live weekly newspaper. the Ripley Times.
