The judicial seat of Kingfisher county and the location of the United States Land Office for this district is advantageously situ- ated at the junction of Kingfisher and Uncle John's Creeks. 5 miles south of the Cimarron river and on the C .. R. I. & P. Ry .. 25 miles north of El Reno, 30 east of Watonga. 35 west of Guthrie, 40 south of Enid and 357 southwest of Kansas City. The city is well laid out with wide streets and its business district is substantially built of brick and stone buildings, with numerous well stocked general stores and special lines. There are 3. banks, 2 flour mills, S grain elevators, .ice manufactory. 2 machine shops, 2 brick yards. cold storage plant, elec- tric light and waterworks system owned by the city, a grand opera house. 3 weekly newspapers, churches of the various denominations. good public school. occupying a fine 10 room brick building erected at a cost of $12.000 and employing 12 teachers. The Kingfisher College. under the auspiees of the Congregational church .. is located here in buildings erected at a cost of over $40,000 and the college is well sustained and takes highest rank in the higher educational insti- tutions oť Oklahoma. county is thickly settled and this city derives an extensive trade and it is considered to be the largest primary wheat market in the country, over 2,500.000 bushels of wheat have been shipped from here during the past two years. Besides there has been vast quantities of other grains, fruit, live stock. produce and poultry annually shipped from this point.
