STATE.
His Excellency the Governor having at the present meeting of the Council suggested the propriety of appointing in pursuance of the law* for organizing the militia of this State, passed the last ses- sion, majors general for the four divisions of the State, as also briga- dier generals for the city and county of New York, the counties of Herkimer, Otsego, Ontario and Tioga, and inasmuch as the Coun- cil is at present destitute of the necessary information to enable them to advise respecting said appointments so as to promote the best interest of the State and at the same time do justice to the rank of individuals-therefore,
RESOLVED, as the opinion of the Council that those appointments be postponed until the next meeting of the Council.
