Lieutenant Colonel James L. Bogart, deceased, lately command- ing the third New York regiment of militia, having by his letter dated the 7th of July last represented that there were two uniform or light infantry companies raising in his regiment under his encour- agement by Lieutenant Arthur Smith and Benjamin Hicks, and that they were likely soon to be completed and recommended officers for the said companies: The Commander-in-chief having thought proper to authorize the forming and raising said companies- RESOLVED, that Arthur Smith be and he is hereby appointed cap- tain of one of the said companies, Tunis Ricker, lieutenant, and George Pulis, ensign thereof.
That Benjamin' Hicks be and is hereby appointed captain, Charles Van Orden, lieutenant. and John J. Johnson, ensign, of the other of the said companies.

ONTARIO COUNTY.
The Commander-in-chief, on the representation of Brigadier Gen- eral (Amos) Hall that it would greatly conduce to the ease and con- venience, as well as the better discipline, of the militia of the county of Ontario if the same were divided and formed into six regiments, has accordingly thought proper to divide and form the same into six regiments in the following manner, to wit:
The regiment commanded 'by Lieutenant Colonel (William) Wadsworth, to be composed of the militia of the towns of Charles- ton, Hartford, Geneseo, Sparta, Northampton and the west part of Pittstown.
The regiment commanded by Lieutenant Colonel (John) Swift to be composed of the militia of the towns of Palmyra, Sodus and the north part of Phelps.
The regiment lately commanded by Lieutenant Colonel (John) Cowdrey to be composed of the militia'of the towns of Seneca, the north part of Jerusalem and the south part of Phelps.
One of the new regiments to be composed of the militia of the towns of Canandaigua, Easton and Farmington.
One other of the new regiments to be composed of the militia in the towns of Bloomfield and Northfield.
The other of the new regiments to be composed of the militia of the towns of Augusta,. Middletown, Bristol. the south part of Jeru- salem and east part of Pittstown.
