STATE MILITIA .- NUMBERING OF BRIGADES AND REGIMENTS.


Resolved, that it is the opinion of this Council that in number- ing the brigades and regiments, the rank established by the reso- lutions of the Provincial Congress ought to be regarded as the rule as far as the same will apply; but, as many regiments and brigades have since been formed to which these resolutions will not apply, it is the opinion of the Council that such brigades and regiments ought to be so numbered as that they may take rank according to : priority of formation.

MONTGOMERY COUNTY.


Whereas on the 7th of October last Peter Yates, through mistake, was appointed lieutenant colonel commandant of a regiment in the county of Montgomery, and it being represented to the Council that Robert Yates was the person intended for the said appointment- RESOLVED, therefore, that Robert Yates be and he is hereby appointed lieutenant colonel commandant of a regiment of militia in the county of Montgomery, vice Lieutenant Colonel (John) New- kerk, deceased, and that he take rank from the 7th of October, 1793. : RESOLVED, also, that Solomon Schuler be and he is hereby appointed an ensign in the regiment of militia in the county of Montgomery, whereof John Newkerk is lieutenant colonel com- mandant, to take rank from the 6th March, 1793, and that Benjamin Van Vleck be a lieutenant in said regiment, to rank from said day.

RENSSELAER COUNTY.


WHEREAS, on the third day of October last, Alexander Cone and Jonathan Babcock were thro' mistake appointed; the former a captain and the latter an ensign in the regiment of militia in the county of Rensselaer whereof Jonathan Niles is lieutenant colonel commandant, instead of Elemander Cone and John Babcock, who were the persons intended to have been appointed. Resolved, there- fore, that Elemander Cone be and he is hereby appointed captain and John Babcock ensign of a company in the said regiment, to take rank from the said third day of October last.

The brigade of militia of the city and county of New York, con- taining a sufficient number of men to form two or more companies of light horse with the ordinary number of light infantry or grena- dier companies-the Commander-in-chief has thought proper on the recommendation of the brigadier general to authorize the form- ing of a second company of horse in the said brigade-WHEREFORE, RESOLVED, that Alexander Lamb be and he is hereby appointed captain of the said troop, John Terhune first lieutenant, Nicholas Lawrence second lieutenant, and William Beekman cornet.
