Ordered, That the Pay of the County Waggon Master, be Twenty-two Shillings & Six Pence # Day, & the Pay of the Deputy Waggon Masters be Twenty Shillings @ day for every day, in actual Specie.
Colo. Davis reports that John Temple, now a prisoner in the Goal of this County, had given Security to appear & answer, &ca., at the Court of Quarter Sessions in the County of Chester, & that the said Temple has took the Oath of Allegiance to the State. (Bond in Colo. Davis's hand.)
Ordered, That John Temple, now in the Goal of this County, be enlarged, he having taken the Oath of Allegiance & given Security for good behaviour, &c. Mr. Matt'w Irwin, Quarter-Master of Mi- litia, laid before the Council his proceedings in that office, & pro- posed that the Brigade Quarter-Master be allowed Major's Pay & Rations, they acting at the same time as Commissaries of Military Stores.
On consideration,
Ordered, That the Brigade Quarter-Masters, who act as Commis- saries of Military Stores in the Militia of this State, be allowed Major's pay & Rations.
The Council taking into consideration the return of the Elec- tion for the County of York ; and thereupon,
Ordered, 'That Will'm Rowan be appointed Sheriff of the County of York, & that Joseph Adlum be appointed Coroner of the said County of York.
A Return of the General Election for the County of York is as follows, vizt : Councellor, James Edgar, Esq'r ; Representatives, Matthew Dill, James Dixon, John Agnew, John Orr, Mich'l Haha & Dav'd Dunwoody ; Sheriffs, Will'm Rowan & Will'm Scott; Coroners, Joseph Adlum & David Candler; Commissioner, Will'm Mitchell ; Assessors, John Sample, Jacob Eichelberger, Thomas Lilly, Will'm Adams, Joseph Chambers & Lewis Williams.
Tho's Urie, Councellor of the County of Bedford, appeared & took the Oaths required by the Constitution to Qualify him to aot as Councellor, he swearing with an uplifted hand, and took his seat accordingly.

Resolved, That an order be drawn on the Treasurer for Five Laundred Pounds for said purpose, provided John Shelds and John Carmichael be security that said Sum be paid into the hands of Archibald Lochry, Esq'r, Lieutenant of the said County, & that the Salt when purchased, be equally distributed among such of the in- habitants of the County aforesaid, as have taken the Oath or Affir- mation of Allegiance to the State.

It being represented to Council, by Will'm Henry, Esq'r, that the following Men can be usefully employed in making Arms for the use of the State, viz : Henry Gingerich, John Eberly, Christian Oberholtzer, Henry Myer, Caspar Halburn, Adam Deterer, Mich'l DeReiner, & George Radfang; it is therefore,
Ordered, By the Executive Council that the above named Per- sons be excused from going to Camp, provided they continue in the employ, under the direction of the said Will'm Henry, Esq'r, upon such terms as he may think reasonable.
Ordered, That John Jordan be appointed Waggon Master of the County of Lancaster, in the room of Ferdinand M'Elvain, and he is authorized & directed to nominate a suitable number of Depu- ties to make out a list of waggons in the said County, & to take or- der that the Waggons employed from time to time in the pub- lic service, perform their duty in their turn, & to proceed therein agreeable to such directions as he shall from time to time receive from this Council.

Upon representation of Mr. Adam Kimmel, that one of the Wag- gons which he had impressed by virtue of a Warrant from this Council, has been rescued from him by Jacob Keller, George Adam France, Dav'd Menser, Sam'l Bowman & Henry Brental, in defiance of the said Warrant; thereupon,
Ordered, That the Sheriff apprehend the said persons, & bring them before this Council, and that a warrant issue for that purpose.
On motion,
Ordered, That a Circular Letter be written to the Lieutenants of the several Counties, to exert themselves in Collecting the Fines due from Delinquents, & remit the same to the Treasurer, and likewise to send forward returns of all the Militia in the several Counties, who have from time to time turned out in the several Classes.
The Council took into consideration the Memorial of Benja. Wallace, setting forth that his brother, Mich'l Wallace, had been put under Guard, by order of Col. Boyd, of Pequea, & had been threatened to be Marched to Camp for this reason, that he, Mich'l Wallace had obtained a warrant for a substitute, in the said Colo. Boyd's Battalion, for abuse.
Ordered, That the said Mich'l Wallace be discharged from his confinement.

Ordered, That Jacob Keller be now brought before the Coun- cil, and it appearing by his own confession that he had, in contempt of the Warrant of this Council, taken several Horses from Adam Kimmel, which had been impressed by order of Council for Public Service, and George Adam France, Dav'd Menser, Sam'l Bowman & Henry Brental being now brought in, and it appearing by their own confession that the said Goorge Adam France, Dav'd Menser, Sam'l Bowman & Henry Brental, were concerned with Jacob Kel- ler, in taking several Ilorses from Adum Kimmel, in contempt of Warrant issued by this Council ; thereupon,
Ordered, That the said Jacob Keller, George Adam France . Dav'd Menser, Sam'l Bowman & Henry Brental be committed the common Goal of this County.
Several letters from the County of Bedford, relating to th incursions made by the Indians, being now read and considered,
Ordered, That the Lieutenants of the County of Bedford, & o- the County of Westmorland, be authorized and directed to call ou- - from time to time, such parts of the Militia of the said Counties may be necessary for the immediate defence of the Inhabitants against the Indians, & to take such measures as may most effectu dly cover the inhabitants while they are securing their grain,

An order was drawn on Dav'd Rittenhouse, Esq'r, Treasurer of the State, in favor of John Bayard, Esq'r, for the sum of Five thousand Pounds, to be charged to Will'm Henry, Esq'r, Lieutenant of the City of Philadelphia, being so much money advanced by John Philips & Co. to the said Will'm Henry, & by him assigned to the said Colo. John Bayard.
An order was drawn on Dav'd Rittenhouse, Esq'r, Treasurer of the State, in favor of George Ross, Esq'r, for Eleven Month's rent of an office for Public Papers, (according to an Agreement made with him by Will'm Parr, Esq'r, for the Sum of Thirty-Three Pounds.

An order was drawn on Dav'd Rittenhouse, Esq'r, Treasurer of the State, in favor of John Tyler, (Gunsmith,) for the Sum of Two Hundred Pounds, & ordered to be charged to Jacob S. Howell, to whom the said John Tyler (Gunsmith) is to be accountable."

SUPREME EXECUTIVE COUNCIL.
Ordered, That Mr. John Tyler send what Rifles he has by him At for service, immediately forward to this Borough, to the Council. The General Assembly of Representatives of the Freemen of Pennsylvania, sent into Council the following Certificate, vist :
" In General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Wednesday Dec'r 10, 1777, P. M.
"On motion, Resolved, That this House will now proceed, agrea- ble to the order of the day, to the Election of Delegates to serve this State in Congress for the ensuing year, every one of whom shall have forty Shillings for each days' service.
" Whereupon, The said Election being made by Ballot, Doctor Benjamin Franklin, Rob't Morris, Dan'l Roberdeau, Jonath'n Bayard Smith, James Smith, Yorktown, Will'm Clinghan & Jo- beph Reed, Esq'rs, were Chosen.

Thereupon, Ordered, That a Certificate of the said Election and appointment be made out, under the Seal of the Comonwealth, signed by his Excell'y the President, & Attested by the Secretary.
