DARLINGTON. The judicial seat of LaFayette county, in the center of which it is situated, is an important station on the C., M. & St. P. Ry, 136 miles southwest of - Milwaukee, 6 southeast of Calamine, 10 northwest of Gratiot Junc- tion, and 60 southwest of Madison. Ex- cellent water power is afforded by the Pecatonica river, and the city now con- tains several large flour mills, a foundry and machine shop, 2 banks, Baptist, Meth- odist, Catholic, Congregational and Epis- copal churches, good schools and 3 weekly newspapers, the Republican, the Democrat -- Register and the Journal. The city has a fine mineral spring. Good hotel accom- modation, the Meehan Hotel being first- class in its appointments. Darlington is surrounded by an excellent farming coun- try. Wheat and live stock are the prin- cipal shipments, and land is worth from $20 to $60 per acre. Stages semi-weekly to Argyle and Monroe. Population, 1,700. Tel., W. U. Exp., U. S.
