KILBOURN CITY. Is located on the Wisconsin river, and on the C., M. & St. P. Ry, in Columbia county, 18 miles northwest of Portage, the county seat. It is beautifully situated at the dells of the Wisconsin river, and is a favorite resort for tourists and pleasure seekers. incor- porated as a village in 1867, it now con- tains steam flouring and saw mills, a foundry and machine shop, a brewery," churches of the Catholic, Presbyterian, Baptist, Methodist, German Lutheran, German Methodist, Episcopal and German Presbyterian denominations, a graded school of 6 departments, a hygienic insti- tute, 2 banks and a weekly newspaper, the Mirror-Gazette. The shipments comprise grain, hops, produce and live stock. Im- mense water power is furnished by the Wisconsin river, but it is as yet ouly par- tially utilized. The town is improving rapidly, and bids fair to become at no dis- tant date a place of considerable import- ance. Population, 1,500. Tel., W. U. Exp., Am. M. B. Smith, postmaster.
