HUDSON. Beautifully located on the St. Croix river, in the western portion of St. Croix county, of which it is the ju- dicial seat, is an incorporated city on the E. div. C., St. P., M. & O. Ry, on the R. F. br. of the same road, 331 miles north- west of Milwaukee. It contains a steam roller mill, a saw mill, a large chair and furniture factory, a cooper shop, 2 brewer- ies, a broom factory, Baptist, Methodist, Lutheran, Presbyterian, Congregational and Catholic churches, good graded schools. a Catholic and high school, a hospital, 2 banks, the First National and the Hudson Savings Bank, railroad repair shops, an opera house and a music hall, capable of seating 500 and 400 respectively, water- works, an electric light plant which lights the city, and 2 weekly newspapers, the Star and Times (Rep.), and the True Repub- lican (Dem). Wheat, flour, live stock, general farm produce and lumber are shipped. The city has an excellent volun- teer fire department of 25 members, 2 hose carriages and a hook and ladder truck. Tel., W. U.
