The Selectmen being Informed by M' Bond who had Spoake with Mrs. Hill who has for Some time kept a Young Child belonging to John Maddocks (at ye charge of the Town) that Shee Could Not keep Said Child Any Longer At Sd Meeting Mrs Mercy Coollidge the Wife of M' John Coollidge Jun'. Whereas the Town of Watertown is Served with Copy's of Two Petitions yt have been preferred to ye Great & General Court by a Numb'. of ye Inhab's. of Several Towns, and a Numb'. of Indians belonging to Natick relating to the fish being Stop't from runing up Charls River in Watertown, To hear Sª Petitions, and for the Town to Act wt they shall judge most prop' & Convenient relating to Sª Petitions.
2. To hear the Petition of M' Ebenezer Thornton praying that ye Town would Either Sell or let to him yt part of ye old Road between his houfe & barn, And the town to Act y' pleafure there on.
3. Voted that ye Sd Reporte be Accepted and that this Town will joine with ye Town of Cambridge Waltham Newton Wefton & Lexington in Bulding a work houfe of ye form & Dimentions propofed and will bare our proportion of ye Charge thereof and of Such other Expence as may be Needful in order fully to Compleat ye Defign or Undertaking Agreeable to ye Several propofalls Con- tained in ye sd Reporte.

Ebenez" Thorntons, alfo John Williams (a lad) who Came from Boston aforesd Some time in Augst. And at two of ye Clock of Sd Day to meet ye Selectmen of Wefton & Waltham in Order to Adjust Accompts relating to ye Great Bridge in Watertown, And Defired the Clerk to Send Notifications of sd Meetings to ye Selectmen of both Towns to Defire their Company.

At a Meeting of ye Selectmen of Watertown On the Eight day of January 1738 At Joseph Mafons. Esq'. Jonathan Church of Sd Town having made his Complaint to ye Selectmen that there is Two Children of John Maddocks vizt. Jofhua & Daniel Maddocks whom he has Supported a long time Sd Jnº Maddocks being und' Such Circumftances that He ye Sd Church wld. keep ye Sª Children no longer therefore Apply'd to ye Selectmen to take ye Care of them. The Selectmen being Concerned for the poor Children, Did Defire Sd Church to keep them till they could git places for them. And having found a good Mafter for Jofhua the Eldeft Child who is abot. five years & five months Old, vizt. M' Marret Munrow of Lexington who has the Carrecter of a Honeft Religious Pfon and where it is likely the Child will be well Educated. The Selectmen Accordingly at this Meeting with the Confent of Two Justices Bound out ye Sd Joshua to ye Sª Munro untill he Shall Arive at Twenty one Years of Age.

M' Stephen Palmer of Cambridge being prefent at this Meeting Informed the Selectmen that He had Some Estate in his hands belonging to Said John Maddocks And offred to take the other Child Daniel who is between three & four Years old, and Support it So long as there remains any Estate of sd Maddocks in his hands. The Selectmen Confidering M' Palmer was a Pfon who was Sd Maddocks friend & Attorney, thot it might be very Accep- table to Sd Maddocks as well as the Child well taken care of, Did therefore advife there to & Defired M' Palmer to take ye Child as he had offred.

Whereas the Debts y' were due from Watertown before it was Divided into Two Seperate Towns, and which were Allowed of by Each Town After Divifion were proportioned between Sd Towns by Committees of Each Town Chofen for that End, the Report of Sd Commtees. was Accepted by Each Town As by record Appears And According to Sd Reporte the whole Sum of the Debts Ammounted to One hundred & Seventy one pounds fourteen Shillings & 2ª. Watertowns Proportion to pay of Sd Sum According to Sd. Report is Ninety one pounds five Shillings and 3ª. And Walthams Proportion to pay of Sd Sum is Eighty Pounds Eight Shillings & 11d The Sd Towns having Each of them Granted their Proportions as Aforesd, And there being Sundry Perfons in Each Town to whom money is due from Sd Towns, Now for the More Eafy & Speedy paym' of ye Debts abovesd. proportioned as aforesd. The Selectmen of Both Towns do Agree to ye Scheeme following vizt.

At a Meeting of the Selectmen of Watertown & Waltham At M' Thos: Saltmarfhs in Watertown on the Sixth Day of Feby. 1738.
Whereas Said Towns At their Meetings in March Last past Granted Thirty Pounds for the Way laid out & Accepted by Watertown before Divided Leading from the Country road to the Schoolhoufe in that part of ye Town (Now Waltham) Twenty five pounds of ye Sd Thirty being for to Satisfy for ye Making of ye wall on M' Allen Flaggs land Agreeable As Set forth in the Selectmens Report of Sd Way Accepted by ye Town as Satisfaction for Sd Flaggs Land which is contained in Sd Way.
Now for the final Settlem' of Sd Affair. Between the Sd Towns and ye Sd M' Allen Flagg. The Selectmen of Sª Towns and the Sd Allen Flagg Came into the following Agreemt. Vizt. That the abovesd Twenty five pounds be Ordred forthwith to be paid to the Sd Flagg vizt. Seven pounds Seven Shillings & five pence to be Ordred by the Selectmen of Watertown to be paid out of Water- town Treafury to ye Sd Flagg. And Seventeen pounds Twelve Shillings and Seven pence to be ordred by the Selectmen of Waltham to be paid out of Walthams Treafury to the Sd Flagg which is to be in Lew of Building Sª Wall. And the Sª Allen Flagg Doth hereby Manifeft his Acceptance of ye Sd Twenty five pounds Ordred as Aforesd in full Satisfaction for Said Wall, and his Land, y' Sd Way is laid out upon. And further the Sª Allen Flagg Doth hereby Discharge the Sd Town from Building Sd Wall. (whereas Large Quantities of Timber has been and is daylie brought by Sundry Pfons belonging to other Towns, and Laid down upon ye Country Roads on both Sids of ye River in Water- town, whereby Sd Roads are greatly Incumbred & obftructed So as to become a Common Nufance, for which ye Town of Watertown has been Pfented and is Lyable to be prefented perpetually if nothing can be done to prevent sd Incumbrance) To know the mind of ye Town whether yy will Choofe a Commtee. To petition ye Great & General Court in ye Name & behalf of Watertown for Releaf relating to Said Nufance that ye Town may be freed from Charge of prefentmt on yt Acct.
Alfo to Order & Direct the Conftables to Notify Such Perfons that ye Town is Indebted to To bring in their Acc's. to the Select- men on fryday the Second Day of March Next at ye Houfe of ye Widow Mary Coollidge Inhold'. in Sd Town at four of ye Clock afternoon in ord' to have them Laid before the Town.
