John Tozer Wife and familie who came Laft from Newton Some time ye Latter end of April Laft paft or beginning of May Currant who resides in the houfe of Phillip and Amos Shattuck of sd Watertown. alfo One James Knap Wife and Familie who Came Laft from the Town of Worcefter Some time in April paft or May Currant they Refide at the houfe of M' Nathanael Fiske of sd Watertown, and one Wm Orfbourn Wife and familie who Came Laft from the Town of Manchefter in the County of Essex Some time in March or April

the Selectmen Appointed to meet again at Mr Thomas Learneds on fryday ye 20th of June Currant at 3 of ye clock in the after Noon, to Confider what is Necesary to be done as to repairing ye great Bridge. And that ye Clerk Notifye the Selectmen of Wefton of said Meeting.

At a Meeting of the Selectmen of Watertown and Wefton on the 20 Day of June at M' Thomas Learneds. Appointed in order to View ye great Bridge in Watertown and Confider wt is Necef- sary Speedely to be done as to repairing Sd Bridge, the Said Selectmen upon Viewing Sd Bridge find yt it is Necefsary Some thing be Speedely done as to repairing Sª Bridge. And in order for a Speede repair of Sd Bridge the Selectmen of both Towns Agreed to Appoint a Man in Each Town to do wt is Necefsary to be Done. it was Agreed that En : Samuel Garfield take ye Care to procure a Man for Sd Affair for Watertown and that Dea : Benjd. Brown take ye Care to procure a Man for Wefton, And M' Thomas Learned is Defired to Advife and Afsist in w' is Agreed upon to be Done, as alfo to procure wt Nails is Necefsary for Sd Affair. And that ye Men that Shall do ye work Lay the Acct : of their Labour before the Selectmen, and to have their pay in Convienant time from their refpective Towns.

At a Meeting of ye Selectmen of Watertown & Wefton at ye houfe of M' Thos. Learneds Sep'. 22: 1729.


They bought of M' Isaac Williams two Long String pieces for ye great bridg in sd Watertown for Ten pounds and agreed to pay him for one day work in Looking out the timber. At ye Same time Agreed with M' Williams of Watertown to do ye Carpentry work of sd Bridge and bring in his Acct to ye Town for his pay, the work to be done forthwith.


At a Meeting of ye Selectmen of Watertown on the 4 day of October. 1729. at ye houfe of Henry Bright Ocationed by ye Death of Mercy Allen a poor Woman yt was helped by ye Town, the Selectmen Agreed to burry ye Said Allen at ye Towns Coft in cafe there Appeares nothing other ways fufficiant to do it, ye Selectmen Defired M' Edward Harrington (ye sd Mercy Allen Lying Dead at his houfe) to take the whole care of ye funiral.

At a Meeting of ye Selectmen of Watertown on the 6th Day of October 1729. at ye Houfe of Thomas Learneds the Selectmen (two of of Wefton Selectmen being prefent and gave their Confent in behalf of sd Wefton Selectmen) Agreed that there Should be Supporters put under two peers of the Bridge over Charls River and a mud fell cap and Supporters und' ye other peer. Agreed yt ye Selectmen of Watertown take the care to get it done, ye Select- men of Watertown Defired L' Samuel Stearns & M' Thomas Learned to take ye Care to See it done, as alfo to Se yt what graviling is Necefsarry upon ye bridge be done the whole to be done with all Convienant Speed.


October the 29Th : 1729.


At a meeting of ye Selectmen of Watertown at the houfe of L' Joseph Coollidges Ebenezer Chenry gave Account to ye Selectmen of ye Cost of thofe things he procured for ye funeral of Sam11 Stearns which Amounted to £ 4 = 14 = 2 the Selectmen Sold to sd Chenry sd Stearns cloath &c. for

2ly. Samuel Parce Late Conftable pleaded Abatement of Edward Dix's Rates in his Lists of Rates which was Twenty Six Shillings & 4ª and the Town by a vote abated to Sd Pierce ye sd Dix's Rates. Said Pierce pleaded an Abatement of John Ham- mond's Rates in his List of Rates wch was fifty three Shillings and Id. and it was put to Vote whether the Town would Abate to Sd Pierce Said Hammonds Rates. and ye Vote paft in ye Negative. 31y. Jonas Bond Late Conftable pleaded Abatement of Wm Webbs in his List of Rates wch was 8 / 10 alfo Sam11 Stearns Rates wch was 13 / 8. and the Town by their Vote Abated to Sd Bond Said Webbs & Stearns Rates.


4ly. Thomas Bond Late Conftable pleaded Abatement in his List of Rates vizt. the Rate of Alexander Meccoy wch was 4 / 4 the Rate of ye Widow Elizebeth Dix 2 / 5. the Rates of Samuel Stearns which was Twenty three Shillings and 7d and the Town by a Vote Abatted the Sd Maccoy & Stearns Rates.


51y. Joseph Grout Late Conftable pleaded Abatement (in his Lift of Rates) of David Graggs rate 4 / 5 Richard Hard rate 5 / 3 & George Adams Rates wch was 18 / 5 And the Town by a Vote Abatted Sª Grags Hards & Addams Rates.


6ly. John Child Late Conftable pleaded Abatment (in his List of Rates) of George Addams Rates which were Twenty two fhil- lings and Richard Hards Rates which were Twenty Seven fhillings and 4ª And the Town by a Vote Abated to Sd Child, the Said Addams & Hards Rates.

Then it was put to Vote whether the Town Do Grant all thofe particuler Accts. or Sums Mentioned in Sd List (Excluding Edward Harringtons Accts). wch Do Amount to £80- 15 -. 8 And the Vote Past in the Affarmitive.


2ly. Put to Vote whether the Town Do Grant the Sum of Seven pounds fourteen fhillings & 2ª wch was Sunck or Abated by the Town in Sundry Conftables Lists of Rates at the Laft Meeting of ye Town on the 15th day of this Inftant December. And the Vote past in ye Affarmitive.


31y. The Town by a Vote abated Jofhua Harrington's & Josiah Harringtons Rates in Thomas Harringtons Lists of Rates which were Thirty Six fhillings & 2d.


4ly. Put to Vote whether the Town Do Grant to Edwd : Harring- ton the Sum of fifty two fhillings wch was ye Doctors Bill for Medi- fens for Mercy Allen and Seven fhillings for diging ye Grave for sd Allen & Drink at her funeral if he do Accept of that in full for his care of ye sd Mercy Allen. I2ly. The Truftees of Watertown's Proportion of ye £60000 Loan Bills of Credit Laid before the Town the Acct. of their Letting out sd Bills and how they had procceded thereon : And the Town Voted that sd Truftees Should have one # Cent of ye Intereft as a reward for their trouble.


At a Meeting of the Selectmen of Watertown at the houfe of Joseph Mafon on the 5th day of January 1729 / 30 the Selectmen Agreed that there Should be a General Town Meeting on fryday the 16th day of January Currant at one of ye Clock in the after- noon at ye Publick Meeting houfe in the Eaft Princt of Sd Town for the Ends following. vizt. (The Town having Voted at a Gen11. Town Meeting on ye fourth of March 1727 / 8 yt they wld build two Schoolhoufes one in Each Precinct for the School to be keept in)


I. To know the mind of the Town whether they will Errect a School houfe in the East Precinct in Sd Town Ten Rods Eaft or Ten Rods Weft of the Meeting houfe in Sd Precinct ; And whether they will Errect a Schoolhoufe about Thirty Rods on the Weft side of the Meeting houfe in the Wefterly Precinct of sd Town.


2. To know the Mind of ye Town whether they will by them- felves or by a Committee Determine and fix upon the Spotts or places of ground where ye sd Schoolhoufes shall Stand in Each Precinct.


3. To know the mind of the Town whether they will grant a fufficiant Sum of money for ye Errecting & finithing Said School- houfes, and how yy * will Difpofe of ye old Schoolhoufe.


4. To choofe a Committe or Committes to Errect and finifh sd School houfes According as the Town Shall Direct.


5. To know the Mind of ye Town how the School Shall be keep in sd Schoolhoufes.


6. To grant a Sufficiant Sum of Money to Support and uphold the School or Schools in Said Precincts.


7. To know the mind of ye Town whether they will further Confider of ye Demands of M'. Edw. Harrington for his Nurfing Mercy Allen in the time of her Sicknefs. the Selectmen ordred the Clerk to write Warrants to ye several Conftables of ye Town Accordingly to warn Said Meeting.


which the Clerk on the 6th of Jany writte Warrants According to order. to ye Several Conftables who warned ye Inhabitants of both Precincts & made their return January 15th. 1729 / 30.

At Said Meeting of ye Selectmen the Selectmen Agreed that M' David Stearns the Prefent Schoolmaster Should be Defired to keep the Grammer and English School in the Town till further order of ye Selectmen, and the Selectmen Defire L' Sam" Stearns to Acquaint M' David Stearns thereof.

2. It was Put to Vote whether the Town will Errect a School- houfe Ten Rods Weftward of Said Meeting houfe. and ye Vote past in the Negative.
